Poll: Which OS do you think Nintendo's next console will use?

All the leaks of the console, while of course unverified, point to the fact that the next console will essentially be in a "New 3DS" fashion, using the same firmware/OS with a few minor tweaks.

What are your thoughts? Of course I would want to see Nintendo develop a new, more lively OS to replace the bland mess HorizonOS has become, but I think it's just wishful thinking at this point.

I think Nintendo will keep using HorizonOS and similar hardware to the Switch.

And it's HOS, current HOS already has reference to Switch 2

HOS with the new security system, like Denuvo Mobile Games Protection in a hypervisor mode within protected VMs. So no piracy at Switch 2.

Likely going to be a fork of Horizon. Horizon is an extremely secure OS and they likely have zero interest in risking it again with a new OS. If anything it will be more secure.

It will use a variant of Horizon OS no doubt. There is no reason for them to abandon their OS which has proven to be extremely secure (specially the kernel and hypervisor). It would just cost them a lot of money to start from scratch and they would have new vulnerabilities. Doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint to change what is already working very well for them.

yes, their new os will make even hardware mods impossible

Well the current build of Horizon on the Switch doesn't even allow for it. In the entire history of the OS there has only been 1 exploit that would allow for kernel access. The only reason Switch's are easily modable is due to a hardware fuckup from Nvidia.

devil's advocate: homebrew doesn't need kernel access if it can run in userspace instead

but I dont think anyone bothered with just userspace on the switch and I dont know if there are even exploits for just userspace homebrew
