Welcome to the Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Village Translation Project! This project aims to translate the in-game dialogue from Japanese to English to make the game more accessible to non-Japanese speakers.

Project Overview

Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Village DX (モンハン日記 ぽかぽかアイルー村DX) is a charming spin-off of the popular Monster Hunter series. My goal is to provide accurate and contextual translations of all in-game dialogue.

Progress & Bugs

The translation V1.0 is 98% fully translated. Due to game engine limitations, the text formatting will sometimes not fit into the respective dialogue boxes.
Formatting the text is about 20% done.

If you see any non-translated text or other issues, please refer to the How to Contribute | Help section.

There are still many formatting issues that will be worked on. For now, you can finish the full game in English with no problems.
In very rare cases, some NPCs cannot be talked to. This is due to an issue with the translation. Please let me know if you find any such cases.

How to Install

 1. You need to own a copy of the game and extract the .3ds or .CIA file.
 2. Download the main branch of this repository.
 3. Replace the original files with the downloaded translated files.
 4. Recompile the files back into the .3ds or .CIA file format.

How to Contribute | Help

The translation is almost complete, but some text cannot be translated easily with simple text editing due to the game engine.

If you have knowledge in Assembly and/or Dark Souls modding (especially .param files), please don't hesitate to join this project and try your luck!

Congrats, I was getting asked to translate this so it's great that someone did it and I don't have to!

I need help. I have the encrypted rom file and use the Hackingtoolkit9ds app, press D to extract the rom so that the extracted romfs folder shows up to swap the files and then replace those files and press R to rebuild. The rom file is significantly lower than what it starts with (From 1gb to 525mb), and then when I decrypt it it goes down to 514mb and it does not run on Citra at all (Black Screen). What am I doing wrong? Is there a better app for doing this? I would love to play this in english as it is a game I have been waiting for to play for the longest time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Nevermind, Managed to figure it out. Just had to right click the game on the emulator and open de mods folder, then make a RomFS folder and put the contents of the patch inside of it for it to work on Citra. Thanks!

I came here to ask the same thing - I've had the game on my PSP for years, but never played it because I couldn't understand it...

I'd imaging the text formatting would need to be changed for the PSP. I'll ask on some discord servers I'm in if anyone knows how to decompile the PSP version

Thank you guys for all your hard work! I seem to be running into issues trying to run the rebuilt game on my 3DS. I keep getting Error Arm11 undefined instruction whenever trying to run the game.

Here are things I've tried:
 • Extracted and rebuilt the .cia with both HackingToolkit9DS and NSUI twice
 • Imported seed for both rebuilt .cia's
 • Updated Luma3DS to the latest
 • Enabled "enable game patching"
Nothing seems to work. I've also confirmed that the .cia I'm extracting works. Any help would be appreciated!

Someone on GitHub posted a nice guide on how to use LumaFS to patch the game:

Sorry noob here but i have a question? Can i just put RomFS from your page onto my 3ds through luma, Title and (of course with the title id) from your page and will it show the game in English that way? Instead of rebuilding the cia.

Sorry to bother everyone but does anyone have collaboration Gudetama costume? For their Felyne. I got all dlc except the Gudetama it seems downloaded before the Nintendo network online, spotpass went off. I got the blue hat lady unlocked and the mail Felyne. But for some reason Gudetama mission isn't showing up for me; I don't know if I need to do more missions for it to show up or what but if anyone has it can you please let me know how you got it or if i need to do a few more missions for it to show up please and thank you.

Any updates on this progress as I'm trying to play the g version on psp and it's a pain using Google lens to translate stuff for me constantly. I also can't join the discord.

I couldn't join the Discord, either :/ I haven't seen any updates since the initial release. My friends sent me some info that I posted here: https://github.com/L-StarJP/Monster...u-Village-DX-English-translation-3DS/issues/2

Hi! I've been quite inactive; there's been a lot going on. At the moment, I've only made minor progress on the translation—nothing significant enough for an update. Recently, I started looking into a PSP patch. It seems possible but would require more than just minor work. I'll post an update if I make any more progress.

looks decent but crashes on retail hardware

As for retail hardware, I've seen a couple of people play on it using this patch. Someone on Reddit posted a full tutorial on how to do it, so I'll copy and share his method here, courtesy of 'BigBossOfThisGym.'

You need a modded 3DS of course, but once you have that: 1.Boot into Godmode9 (hold start while powering on the 3DS) 2.On the directory list, select "[C:] GAMECART", and then select “Copy to 0:/gm9/out”. 3. Once it's done copying, turn off your console and plug your SD card into your PC. 4.Copy the dump from the gm9/out folder onto your PC. 5. Download this 3DS extractor tool (I use V9 because the newer versions wouldn't work for me) : https://github.com/Asia81/HackingToolkit9DS/releases/tag/9 6. Run the Setup program included in the zip file, once that's installed, place your dumped cartridge in the same folder that "HackingToolkit9DS" is in. 7.Rename the dump to something with no spaces (I named mine "monhun"). 8.Open HackingToolkit9DS and enter the command to extract your dump (it will say which command to enter for .3ds and .CIA files. 9.Type in the file name and wait for it to extract the files. 10. Download the English patch files (https://github.com/L-StarJP/Monster-Hunter-Diary-Poka-Poka-Airou-Village-DX-English-translation-3DS) 11. Once your dump has been extracted, there should be a folder called "Extracted RomFS" or something like that. 12. Place the files from the English patch inside that folder. 13. After that, open HackingToolkit9DS again and type in the command for "Rebuild .3ds file" (or .CIA file, whatever format your dump was originally). 14. Wait for the program to rebuild your dump. 15. Copy the rebuilt file onto your 3DS and install with FBI. And you're done! It sounds like a lot of work, but I promise you it's really easy. If you don't want to do all of that, the patch might be on hShop by now, so have a look there :)
