Hi all,

I have a new PS5 on my bench. The console is booting normally but it is not possible to synch a controller and since it was resetet to factory no chance to do anything.
No of the USB ports is working.

I opened the board an checked all fuses. The mosfets of all USB ports are getting 5V. If I pull the enable to 5 V the USB port is running.

Do you know where the enable line comes from and why there are 2 transistor in front of the mosfet enable?

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Error code says

C0920002 *? (related: WIFI IC problem/data line short circuit/power failure)

WiFi chip has 1,8 and 3,3 V no shorts.

Okay, I can give it a try and swap with another wifi module from a Donor.

Thanks, I will reply if it was the problem

I personally haven't seen one PS5 having this kind issue yet, but back from PS4 days, WIFI module would lead to USB stop working.
I swapped the WiFi Chip but still no enable for the USB Ports. Next try will be reflowing the Soutbridge cause enable comes from there. Interesting is, that on the transistor circuit in front of the MOSFET enable I did not found 5V or do not know where the high side / switching voltage is coming from.

I tried to find it but no chance.

So I have some news. Still not working, Southbridge is re balled but not getting better regarding the USB. What I observed:

Diode Reading of 5V Rail is -1.9V. That looks weird to me. Maybe a Regulator or diode is burnt? Stdby voltages are all looking good. Console is starting but ends at the please connect a controller screen.

What I also observed is, that the console freezes after some short time. It is freezing in safe mode and in normal mode. This is also weird to me.

I found the failure and bring some pictures of the shorted component later.

So it was a short of this power regulator because of a shorted cap near the front USB connector.

Just checked edm-020 board, the cap and sot323 regulator are actually on the same line, so in your case were shorted both.
yes sorry for my bad English. I have seen that the regulator gets warm and measured a short at his output. And the root cause of the short on this output was the cap I marked.

After swapping the cap everything runs fine now. The regulator is still the old one since it has no further damage.

It's equivalent to a gt 560 which should be enough for ps3

not that, some psu like those corsair rm series stock cables have very big knicks that make it impossible to fit in there
