Hi community,
I'd like to share something with you, maybe it'll be helpful for repairs in the future.
Today I had an EDM-030 board in for repair with a 12V short. Turned out that a mosfet blew open (see picture, the one in the middle). I changed that only to find out that the short was still there. A VRM got burned as well. Lucky for me it didn't kill the APU. Changed the VRM and the PS5 came back to live. After testing i realised that all 3 USB-A Ports worked fine but as soon as I insert a device into the front USB-C Port i got the "Too many USB-devices" on screen. Even more, sometimes it displayed the message without inserting a device into the port.
I exchanged the USB chip and the chip beside this one (don't know if it's for power management or maybe firmware?) but this didn't fix it.
Dug a little deeper and found that the power switch driver (AF01, see picture down left) was faulty as well. The 3 topright pins read only about 90 ohms while a donor was at roughly 45-50 kohms. Exchanged the driver and USB-C came back to live and no more "Too many USB devices" message anymore.
Hope this helps you guys in the future.
Cheers
