Hello everyone,

First time poster here. I decided to make this post since I am having issues with my Wii U. Currently, my Wii U will not boot up to the main menu. It stays stuck on the Wii U logo indefinitely.

There are a few things to note about my console. The console is the black 32 gb model. I believe it was bought during the 2012 holiday season (release) as we were expecting to play Pikmin 3 before it got delayed. The system has never been modded in any fashion. It was not the most heavily played console, and I can't even give a good estimate of when it was last used (at least more than 3 years).

I have already tried doing the UDPIH, however it does not seem to be working. When using the second recovery menu, I get a white screen with some blue lines (see attached image). I believe this is similar to what @fadafwet described in his post. I was able to get the logs from the system, which I have attached to this post. Any idea what the issue may be and how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Got around to trying wafel_install. I've attached my serial log. I compared it to the one provided in the guide for rebuilding the MLC, and there seems to be a few differences, but I'm not sure what they mean.

I guess I was confused as to what would happen since the guide said that was a log of the successful install. Not sure what exactly was installed, but based off what you said, I guess it wasn't the titles.

I didn't see anything in the menu for "stroopwafel". I see that there is a github repository for stroopwafel, but just by following your guide, I assumed that de_Fuse is all I need and that stroopwafel is already included. I'll try again, but is there a menu option I should look for?

Went back to the github for de_Fuse, and the version I'm using (v0.7.1) includes stroopwafel, so that isn't the issue. I just can't figure out how to boot into stroopwafel.

Found another post that clarified booting into stroopwafel, so I have that figured out.

Tried patch & boot ios, but in the end it just repeated "MLC open attempt #### FFFCFFE9" where # is just ever increasing numbers (it ended up getting stuck at 7346). Unfortunately, it tried so many times that I can't go far enough back in the log to show what else was done. I'm going to try to stop it when it starts attempting so I can get the log.

Not sure what changed this time, but it did something very similar where "alive" just kept repeating. I've attached the log. I also noticed the power LED was slowly flashing orange.

The mlc is detected with 32GB. I would recommend you use a 64GB in the NAND-AID. That way you can make sure that it get's formatted. Now it still detects the mlc as formatted and won't format it, because of left overs in the slc cache (scfm).
If you don't have a 64GB card, you could fisrst run the wafel_destroy_mlc and after that try the install again.

Put in the 64 gb card, selected patch and boot ios, and the same thing happened as before where it tries to open MLC and now it's stuck at "MLC open attempt 7346 FFFCFFE9".

Do you think it could be soldering with my Pico (either on the pico itself or the board)? Everything else seems to work. I don't have to use wafel_destroy_mlc?

Also I should add for context that I tried 2 or 3 times. I’ll double check the wiring, particularly on the pico, to make sure no wire broke off.

Understood. All those connections should be solid as they all have continuity. The only one that might be an issue is that CLK connection. I guess it’s possible the joint might have broke when I swapped cards. I’ll try booting a couple more times before reflowing it.

Of course. I’m not sure if it’s a design issue or a fabrication issue, but that leg that connects to the pad on the eMMC side looks like it was cut short. I got them from OSH Park so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

I might also try your wire idea so I’ll have a very short piece of wire help stabilize the connection.

The clk on the eMMC side doesn't matter, we care only for the connections comming form the SoC.
Also make sure the the clk line didn't reconnect, when you soldered the NAND-AID. That happened to me.

When you say SoC, what does that mean?

I did check continuity of everything last night and everything looked good, but I will check to make sure the clk line didn’t reconnect. I don’t think I detected continuity, but I’ll double check. Everything else is for sure good.

Just to be sure use the second option in minute to use the lastest IOSU from SD.

But it doesn't look like the mlc is comming up. Do you have another card you can put in for testing?

Also check if any of the eMMC signals is shorted to GND

Checked for shorting to GND, and it turned out that D0 was shorted to GND. I ended up desoldering the card reader I had for dumping the nand, and that solved the short. I guess a wire inside the card reader was touching GND. D2 and D1 were also shorted together so I fixed that. Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue.

As for the second option in minute, it doesn't work because I don't have the patch file.

I tried another card, and surprisingly it seemed to work, at least partially. It seems to have got stuck in some sort of loop. I've attached a snippet of this loop. I also wanted to try the endurance SD card again, but this time I formatted it to FAT32, as the other card I tried was already formatted to FAT32. It didn't exactly work, but it did proceed differently than before. It seems to get stuck and gives an orange light. I've also attached that log. I see that at the very least, the endurance SD card is being recognized.
