Hello everyone,

First time poster here. I decided to make this post since I am having issues with my Wii U. Currently, my Wii U will not boot up to the main menu. It stays stuck on the Wii U logo indefinitely.

There are a few things to note about my console. The console is the black 32 gb model. I believe it was bought during the 2012 holiday season (release) as we were expecting to play Pikmin 3 before it got delayed. The system has never been modded in any fashion. It was not the most heavily played console, and I can't even give a good estimate of when it was last used (at least more than 3 years).

I have already tried doing the UDPIH, however it does not seem to be working. When using the second recovery menu, I get a white screen with some blue lines (see attached image). I believe this is similar to what @fadafwet described in his post. I was able to get the logs from the system, which I have attached to this post. Any idea what the issue may be and how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

The first one looks totally fine, it was in the middle of installing all the titles.

For the second: it detected the MLC as formatted l, so it didn't format again. Probably because of the SCFM.
You can try to use the wafel_destroy_mlc on the endurance card and then try the install again

I thought the first one was stuck in a loop because it looked a bit different from your log and it repeated that loop a lot, so much so that the entire log was that loop. If it really was going fine, that's my mistake, but still, I'd prefer to use the endurance card.

I did as you suggested with the endurance card (as well as the other card in case I need to use it), and I'm still getting the same results with the endurance card. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but there is a 16 KB unallocated partition on the endurance card that is not present on the other card. I read online that the partition is put in there for various functions.

I've also attached the destroy log just to make sure I didn't end it early. I'm pretty sure I didn't, but just in case.

I guess another thing I should ask is how long (at least on average) should the install take?

Also I'm trying the install again on the other card and what I think is the loop is happening again and the light is flashing orange.

Yes the destroy formatted the mlc, like it is supposed to. But it seems that in some cases ths is not enough and the wfs will still be detected for the 64gb card.
Don't put the other card in, only use the one you want to use for now.
Use the destroy together with the setup, hopefully that is enough to destroy the 64gb wfs. Then you run the setup again without the destroy plugin

Funny you should say that, because I just noticed the light is solid blue. It had been blinking blue before. The terminal is still going though.

Something seems to be wrong. Although my endurance card did not get held up again, the install seems to be getting stuck. I've attached all of the log I could get. I let the install go for at least 10 minutes before shutting off the Wii U. I'm redownloading the mlc and slc titles in case that's the issue. Might also dump otp.

I also have the wafel_setup_mlc.log which I've attached as a .txt file.

The setup log looks like it was successful. Just boot without defuse (without powering the pico) and see if it boots to the initial setup

Yes, make sure neither the 3V3 are connected nor the the USB of the pico is plugged in.
you can try without the Disc drive first. If it complains about the missing Disc Drive, then that is already a success and you can connect it and try again.

Great news. It seems to be working. I went through the entire system setup and navigated to the eShop with no issue. I never did get an error for the missing disc drive. Something interesting I did notice though is that I went to the eShop to see if I could still download the DLC I purchased years ago for Smash Bros. I received the message that some of the content was already on the system which I would think wouldn't be possible since the mlc was rebuilt from scratch.

With that being said, is there anything that can be done with any save data that may be in my mlc backup? Is there any way to extract it? I'm ready to start to from scratch if I need to, but I'm still holding onto hope that something can be recovered.

The nand can be extracted with the tools in this post. https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wii-u-nand-tools.465386/
If the files aren't corrupted you should be able to FTP them to the Wii U and they should work as long as the userid's match. Another way is that you maybe able to import them from an SD card with SaveMii. https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-savemii-wut-port-wii-u-vwii-savefile-manager.608824/

Can you show the exact message? Could it be that it just said that you already own it an can download it for free again?

For the savegames: were you able to extract your mlc with wfs-extract? If so you should be able to just copy the saves over using FTP.

Could also be preinstalled content (console bundles). IIRC that's on SLC.
Shouldn't be that since the Wii U was a launch console. Also, if I did reinstall the SLC, I don't see how that would be on there.

I'll take a picture of it and post it later today when I get home. It definitely did not say I already owned it and could download it again for free. I remember it saying something along the lines of at least some of the content already being on the system.

I did do wfs-extract a while ago (back in July). I have the sys and usr folders, and I know the saves are in the usr folder. Might be a broad question, but what exactly are in the sys and usr folders? I would assume that the sys folder contains data applicable to the whole system while the usr folder contains data for individual users. Is there a way to copy these folders over to my Wii U and essentially pick up where I left off?

I also did find a guide on using FTPiiU to install games, but not save data (or any other general data). Is there a guide I could get the link to detailing this?

/sys/title contains the system mlc titles, we installed during the rebuild. If an system update get's downloaded it will be temporarily be saved in /sys/update besides that there is nothign interesting in /sys
In /usr/title you have the games, game updates, dlc you installed from the eShop. Each in it's subfolder
In /usr/save are the saves from the games and the system apps and other data from the system apps. The saves from your games will be in /usr/save/00050010/ and one subfolder for each game. You can look up the title ids here: http://wiiubrew.org/wiki/Title_database
Each game save contains a user subfolder and there you have one common folder, which contains shared data and then one folder for each user, starting with 80000000 and then counting up for each new user created. Depending how the users were configured you might have to rename these to match the new user ids.

For FTP make sure to set your FTP client to binary mode (not ASCII / Text mode)

if I did reinstall the SLC, I don't see how that would be on there
We did just install the titles on the SLC; but we didn't format it. The tickets are still there and maybe some config, that wasn't overwritten by the initial setup

Ok so I'll go ahead and install Tiramisu as well as WiiUFtpServer. I don't mean to veer off topic, but is Tiramisu the equivalent of the Wii's Homebrew channel?

I also would say I don't really need a NAND backup considering everything I've done to this point.

I’ve attached the pictures showing what happens in the eShop. Would’ve posted last night, but I was very tired. Had a little scare this morning since I wasn’t getting any output to the TV and the pad wasn’t connecting to the system, but I just attached the disc drive and it seems to work fine.

The Homebrew Launche rwould be more of a equivalent to the HBC. There is no true equivalent to Tiramisu, the closest would be a patched IOS, but Tiramisu is applaying the patches dynamically.

As long as you have otp and SLC.RAW, you should be able to recovery the console from any situation with defuse.

I never saw that message before. What did you click to get it? "View Downloadable Content"? What happens when you you click download?

Could it be that something wa salready installed by SpotPass? Did you look at the data management what is there?

Else have a look at usr/title on the mlc to see what is already there. You can also look at sys/title on the slc, but there shouldn't be anything besides the few system titles
