sony bdp-s6700 custom firmware?

I found a Sony bdp-s6700 Blu-ray player with wifi and Bluetooth built in at Goodwill for $5. Everything seems to work just fine. it can update its firmware as Sony releases it via network or manually via USB, which is why I think custom firmware is possible. i haven't been able to find anything but old forms and nothing was released tho it showed a video of someone playing GBA games with a DualShock 4 controller! If anyone here can find anything I would really apricate it!

Never heard of emulators (not that I really follow that scene) but sounds like interactive bluray homebrew? All "regular media", no mods required

This model, like most before, does run Linux but that doesn't mean it's an open platform - as you can see from the following links there may be some way to get inside, but apparently there are multiple products called S6700 and it applies only to the first ones:

id say considering the sony brava tv can run Linux then i see no reason why a Blu-ray player cant! i guess I'm going to have to figure out how to acess the root and see what I can do with it.

so do you think if I burn a ps3 game to a disk it would run as is?

yea ik that, i sold my modded ps3 a year ago, I miss it.

also I wonder with a little modification to the source code for linux if I could play ps3 roms on the blueray player via USB. i just took it apart and it has a ARMv7 chip

The blu-ray player will not be capable because it doesn't have the necessary components to run PS3 games, such as the CPU.

Yea it won't Totally different CPU and GPU systems. It's more like a Vita tbh with the ARMv7

Maybe Retroarch and a bit of luck could get you up and running with a collection of games (Would prob need custom firmware)

Bug found on all java Blu-Ray Devices. Allow's for anything to be ran on them (Well not EVERYTHING but i think you get my slang)

so ive run into an issue... the heatsink is soldered onto the board and it doesn't wanna come off. also I need a diagram for what to solder to specifically for this motherboard

Then you will need to desolder the heatsink, or its stuck on using some strong adhesive thermal compound similar to the OG Xbox. If thats the case then power on the player, as soon as it gets hot, then you can lift the heatsink off.
