Hello, so i come to you all because i'm looking for a full version of this old emulator, i wrote to the email on the official page but im not sure imma acomplish anything there since the website looks very 2001 and other sources say that emulator was abandoned in 2000.

Why do i want this emulator when theres a dozen better options nowadays? nostalgia, simple as that. I wanna have the emulator i used as a kid. I currently have the free version that turns off the gameboy color functionality after 5 minutes, which sucks.

I just hope the developer, and you all, don't think it's disrespectful to the dev to ask for it for free when he used to charge for it, but it's been so many years i don't think that's relevant anymore right?
I leave a blurry screenshot of the main screen of the emulator, just so it's clear which one im talking about

This? Took 30 seconds to find, and it's from the official site too...

no, bro. The thing on the official site cuts off the GBC emulation after 5 minutes (that actually pass in 30 seconds if you use nonframecapped speed. I did say so. "im using the free version that..." Please read my post properly before talking to me like i'm a moron

oh and for the record, the official site has older versions but those have horrible sound emulation
The only one i didn't find (and probably the one i used back then) is 2.4, which most likely didn't have this GBC lockdown after 5 minutes, as the even older versions available don't

Get off your high horse, first of off all I only took 2 minutes searching around, and 2nd, nowhere in the webpage where the download link was retrieved was there a mention of a free and paid version, the only thing close to that is a LITE version which was said to be no different to the others apart from stripped off debug features so sorry if the site and emulator dev mislead me into believing you didn't search hard enough?

[Edit] okay, now I see what you meant, glad this was put below every download links just to make sure this would be overlooked after a 2 minutes google search 🙄

The old (monochrome) gameboy emulation, and the Super Gameboy features are freeware, and do not need to be registered, but the color gameboy emulation part is shareware. Please understand that I need to ask for some money, after all I have put about three years of work into the program, and thus didn't had time to work on something else. So, your money is very welcome, and will help me to continue to work on no$gmb!

i figured you googled for like a minute, found it and then replied in a condescending manner because apparently i'm unable to do a simple google search, it's not a high horse, i just expect to be talked to with respect. You said sorry so it's cool, i don't wanna get into pointless arguments.

I tried wayback machine and googled a lot but i can't seem to find a free/illegally cracked version with perfect sound emulation. I'll check my old backup CDs i guess.. if i figure how to read a CD in 2021 without any reader

To be honest the entire nocash concept is really ambiguous and inconsistent, sometime there's a full version + optional donation, sometime paid version, and other times sharewares with unclear explanations about what is actually available and what is premium until you literally get yourself in a situation like this thread lol.

There it slipped above my head as being something you were looking for but missed, and obviously the download link did not explicitly mention having stripped down features or being a trial version either, until I came back an hour later and scrolled all the way down to the shareware paragraph, and then smacked my phone at my face for assuming you didn't find it by yourself at first, while that was explained properly below the links, you know like what every people and their dog would only focus at and close the tab before posting a reply then sleep?

Lesson of this 3 am phone browsing journey for me: never forget to read the small characters below any webpage in case of such misunderstanding happens again. 🙃

As for the full (proper) no$gmbd version, no idea where to find it except for the donation, which to my knowledge is all up to date information and must still be actively used, which is certainly odd considering how old the emulator itself is.

Now, I apologise for the tone I had earlier, that's one of those "let's look at gbatemp 1 last time before calling it a day" moment, where you believe you have got the accurate information in the 2 minutes google search involved.
I legitimately was not aware this was actually *not* the full version.

Registered just to help you because I was having the same problem, also tried archive.org, and also wanted this for nostalgia.

I can't post links since my account is new :\. If you go to the official no$gmb page (on the .de domain), you'll see a link to "No$gmb News & History". Click that. It should take you to a page named "gmbhist.htm". This is basically a version history page with download links for old versions.

Version 2.x is when no$gmb started disabling color emulation after 5 minutes. Scroll down to download version 1.8 or 1.9. You might need to use DOSBox to run it. Windows XP can launch it natively via its built-in DOS, but this is one of the few times I actually prefer the shittiness of DOSBox over built-in Windows DOS because no$gmb has a "turbo" mode (when you press the + key). On modern CPUs, the turbo mode can go in excess of 10,000% speed up, which makes the game unplayable. I can't walk into a door at 10,000% speed. If you limit the DOSBox CPU cycles, you should be able to get no$gmb back to the turbo mode speeds of the late 90s at 200%. Here's my DOSBox config:

# Config file for Dosbox-ECE r4230
[sdl]
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
output=ddraw
mapperfile=mapper.map
[dosbox]
machine=svga_s3
memsize=63
[render]
aspect=true
[cpu]
core=auto
cputype=auto
cycles=max limit 14000
[pci]
[mixer]
[midi]
fluid.soundfont=.\mt32\SoundCanvas.sf2
mt32.romdir=.\mt32
[sblaster]
[gus]
[speaker]
[joystick]
[serial]
[dos]
[ipx]

IMO, the ability to limit the turbo mode makes this a superior Gameboy emulator, even if you remove the nostalgia. VisualBoyAdvance and others have turbo modes, but the games are unplayable at 1000% speed ups.

I tested with Pokemon Yellow, and the music is still slightly off compared to the Windows no$gmb 2.x. The reason is because the DOS music is emulated. This is also the case when using built-in WinXP DOS with VDMSound to get the audio working. Play around with it and let me know if you can come up with better settings than mine.

Thanks for your help brother, I did find the right .exe without the time limit a while ago, not too long after i posted this, on some random website from like 2002 that was still up, so if anyone needs it i'll share.

And yes, i've set up the CPU cycles in plenty different ways until i got the turbo mode into playable speeds, and i've also added a CRT shader to my DOSbox so it looks as close as i could get to my childhood.
If anyone wants (and it's not against the rules) i could share the whole DOSbox+no$gb folder. I'd remove the ROMs since that's certainly against the rules.

Could you share the whole DOSbox+no$gb folder to help out a brother?

Can't you patch the .exe so the GB Color trial never runs out?

And have you bothered reaching out the the dev? If you pay him some money, you'll likely get the premium version you're after.

i found the version i used back in the day no need to patch. That version works without a time limit, and with all the functionality anyone might need.
I wrote to the dev and didn't get a response. It's a very old software i don't think the guy even expects money for it anymore

As sad as it might be to hear, some devs "go dark" and don't reply because they've passed away. I'm hoping that's not the case, but it does happen. People don't usually change their email addresses too often.

well that's a pretty sad scenario, but it's been 20 years, it sure is possible. I still use the same e-mail i created when i was 11 years old btw. I'm 32 now.
