Hey Rebirth999,

I managed to successfully edit the required .brlyt file for the weapon select menu :)
(Image in spoiler tag due to size):
1DlKJgV.jpg

I used the app benzin to convert it between brlyt and xmlyt (which is just an xml file), which I then could edit with any text editing app.
Just editing the height and width in the xml for the "pic1" named "Spear" to the same size as my new tpl (86x25, as opposed to original 25x25), then reconverting back to brlyt, repacking everything, then testing it... and it worked fine.

Or if you want, I can try editing the brlyt for you, just give me the heights and widths of your English tpls, and I will edit it accordingly :)

Also, the strings for text script appear to be in the .sgo files, encoded in UTF16 Little Endian too. Editing the text is one thing, but I do not know how to increase the actual size of the strings, therefore not enough room for English replacement text... :( I hope you have better luck than me in regards to string length changing...

\layout\Option.sgo seems to hold the option menu text.
\mission\mission_list.sgo seems to hold all the mission names and descriptions.
\mission\tutorial_list.sgo seems to hold all the tutorial video names.
\weapon\WeaponTable.sgo seems to hold all the weapon names and descriptions.

That is what I have found so far, hope my info helps. :)

Wow thank you so much!
you are one of the best! thx!

some edit in .sgo files:

Option Menu:
text03.png

Mission Description:
text01z.png

Weapon Description:
text02.png

Right now, me too, i dont know how to increase the actual size of the strings, but mission and option description have just more space to insert.
Anyway mission name and weapon name have poor text space, so can't be translated right now.

Anyway thx @damysteryman for your support, i will try your help soon,
for know you will be part of the credit of this project

You are welcome :)

And those .sgo edits are nice!
Good to know you could edit some of the text, despite the string length limit.
Hopefully it can be figured out sometime though, especially for those weapon names.

And again, you are welcome :)
I am not online all the time though, but I will try to be online a bit more so I can check my PM inbox more often. Just send me a PM when you want me to try editing the brlyt, and I will try changing the dimensions for you.

And thanks for adding me to credits too :)
I did not expect anything like that, I just thought I would share what I managed to find

Anyways need some sleep now, but should be back later, probably some time tomorrow.

haha go to sleep! here in italy are only 04:00 pm!
i will let you know if i need help, right know when i have time, i will try to edit it by myself ;) (we will see)

Also, I cannot get the V1.00 patch to work... I applied the patch to my clean dump of Zangeki no Reginleiv, but the resulting iso was unrecognized by WiiBackupManager, and it made WiiScrubber and Dolphin crash when I tried to load it... do you know what could be the cause of this?

When I get some more time another day, I will try redumping my disc and using that to retry patching it.

I find some bug in the V 1.00 patch .ppf, (i deleted it now)
thx for the signal! @damysteryman

no one seems to report any problem but... so strange because the patch seems not to work at all.

right now i have made a new fresh V. 2.00 patch, this time i tried this new patch for 2 times on the original dump (i have made 2 dump) ! and the backups now works great,
i NEED to know if this time works correct or not.
(the first one, crash when you load wiiscrubber or dolphin, even in the wii i think)
while this new patch don't.

Download it from the first post

For not having more issue, i just make a new tutorial video, i hope this help:

-Report any problem, it's important for me.
-Sometimes wiiscrubber required 8-10 second before opening the iso.

i hope this time works.

No more problems guys!
thx to @damysteryman, FROM NOW ON, i can edit every single "width and height" of
ANY .tpl image present in the game.

LoL
It's a good step forward ! :yaywii:
i should make great sword and hammer just big a little bit (much better i think)

ANYWAY

In the patch V 3.00 the save and load menu will be completed! :P

Right now @damysteryman will be part of the credit on the next release, (3.00)
for now i add you in the first post.

Ok, I am finally back

Nice to know you got the brlyt editing working now too Rebirth999 :)
And thanks again for the credit too! I am happy I could help :)

However, I have not had suck luck... I still have problems with patching...
Using V2.00 patch on my clean dump does not cause apps to crash anymore, but instead, the game just blackscreens, both on Wii and in Dolphin... :(

I dumped the game again, just to be sure, but it still failed...
The MD5 of my clean unpatched dump is: 95FAEE5919701E3B74AECA2FD312873C
The MD5 of the (non-working) patched version is: 0abddd5b0dba3bb1190838c7838482ab

The only thing I can think of is that maybe our unpatched isos differ somehow?
I am using a freshly dumped, completely unmodified iso as a base.

Sorry it's my fault! (again, WTF? XD)
Not every day i made a patch, so i was a complete disaster! :glare:
I worked all the time with a "scrubbed Iso as a base", because i dumped it from the original
by the wii and scrubbed after, inevitable for having much more space to insert the modification inside the .iso
(impossible for 4.5gb iso)
i forgot all of this..

I hope this time everything goes fine!

Just scrub the iso and apply the patch.
I'm sorry for making you do 10 dump from the dvd!

-Added the guide to the first post too.

Ah, I see now!
I was wondering that, but was not 100% sure...

Thanks for clarifying that for me :)
I will try it again now before going to bed (just past midnight ATM where I am :P )

EDIT: Still no luck just yet... I tried deleting the Update partition in WiiScrubber, and also used the scrub option, but ended up with a different Disc Data Size and different MD5...

Will try dumping game via a USB Loader (dumping the game partition only) sometime tomorrow to see if I get the same MD5.

Progress for the V 3.00 patch:

Tutorial and Option Menu completed:
tutoption.png

Load and Save Menu completed:
saveload.png

craftweapon.png

The text script in load and save menu must be inside a little .sgo file (maybe around 1-3 kb?)
(not in a .arc archive because it isn't text-image)

the text say: play time, hours, minute, total weapon crafted, hp number for frey and freya.
it's simple to edit but i can't find it now,
i tried even main.dol and other .sgo but without success..
all the .sgo that start with Nw .sgo are from online play.

Almost done! every menu is completed guys
remain only change character/equip menu and hp upgrade menu..
after that, every menu has been translated :moogle:

in future i will translate the option script too.

Ah, I see now!

Will try dumping game via a USB Loader (dumping the game partition only) sometime tomorrow to see if I get the same MD5.

if you still have problems, i will send you a package .rar with all the file to add to the iso.
let me know then ;)

I need to know how many people are interested in this project!!
I couldn't be more interested ^_^

This game has a really cool gameplay concept (I dunno why, but swinging the Wiimote to control a sword is really appealing to me... that's why I liked Skyward Sword).

I wish I could help, but my japanese skills are just like my hacking skills (non-existent).
Anyway, thanks a lot for the patch! I really appreciate the effort you're putting into this ;)

Converted my .wbfs file into .iso, applied the patch and converted it back to .wbfs. The game freezes when I load a save file >.<

Any advise?

Ummm,
i tested the patched iso with USBloader GX (from a 8gb usb-pen) and on a dvd-backup with Gecko os,
and the game with the patch works great in both cases (No bug or crash)
i have a Pal wii with 4.3 firmware.

have you tried to launch the patched iso on dolphin or opened it with wiiscrubber, is everything fine??
works?

do this check first, :teach:

if dont work:

the iso must have the same size like i said in the first post,
look the wiiscrubber image under How To apply the patch

and if you still have this load-freeze thing, try to launch the game in another method like USBloader GX (the best way for my opinion)

IMHO maybe the passage from iso to .wbfs, may create problems.

i hope that will be fine.

Your scrubbed .iso must have Disc data size: 3778070528 before patching.

that pic is after or before patching?
Grazie volevo proprio provare agiocare a questo gioco e non riuscivo per il jap, anche io ho qualche difficolta con la patch se possibile ti faccio qualche domanda fammi sapere

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
