Suppose we dumped our cartridge, with your files would it be possible to use the dump to make a hard patched cia file for those of us who don't use NTR cfw?

Yes or no, I'm still grateful for the patch at all! It'll be nice to be able to play as a girl character to woo the bachelorettes instead of the bandage fix of playing as a guy character with girl outfits and dealing with male-gendered dialogue

I'd actually be really happy to get some help with dialogue if the xbb message file weren't such a pain :/ I might try to make a transcript for easy editing when I have some time.
@Cleru I checked out Hans and it looks like Trio of Towns isn't compatible with it at all, it crashes on the main title screen with the patch and without. Looks like this'll be an ntr cfw exclusive patch for now until that gets fixed (if it ever does).

Thank you! I actually tried this with SoS too, but for some reason its main data files were no where to be found?
Trio of Towns has all its data nicely compiled in the constdata.xbb file, so it made editing much easier once I actually found what I needed to edit.
You know how to edit xbb files

I actually completely forgot that was an option, woops. Yeah, in theory, that should work!
I haven't tried it myself, but if you dump your cartridge into a cia with decrypt9WIP, extract, edit, and rebuild the cia with HackingToolkit3ds, then install the edited cia with FBI (or NASA?) you'll have the patch working without cfw!
I don't actually have time to test this myself though, so if you attempt this, please tell me how it works out so I can edit the installation guide for non-cfw users!

Kind of? I've gotten the general gist of how they work, but I haven't been able to actually add any new papa files to the xbb files. I've figured out how to edit existing text in the xbb files though, that's how I've been editing dialogue. Really, I've just been using a hex editor on the xbb file to edit text since it's not encrypted. The papa files all have their own pointer tables, and the xbb file has a pointer table for all the papa files. If I make a papa file larger than it originally was, I have to edit all the pointers in the papa file and the pointers in the xbb. It can be pretty time-consuming.

Oh I'll try some stuff later then.

I patched the cia manually and installed it, it's running but whether or not the patch works will take a minute to find out while I get myself out of the tutorial! (I had a save as a guy, but since I'm using the girl patch I assumed I'd need to)

Edit: And it appears to be working! The method's a bit of a hassle and updating it will be a little troublesome, but it's a viable alternative.

Oh that's great! I'll update the OP, then! Did you use the tools I mentioned or different ones?

@seagrot Here's another method to installing the patch without CFW, if you'd like to try it out.

Just the ones you mentioned! decrypt9WIP, HackingToolkit3ds, and FBI to install. I also have to recommend a save manager (I use JKSM) for backing up save for version updates of the patch, since overwriting the install does wipe the old saves as well.

I'm just curious, but why do you not want to use NTR CFW? It's a lot easier than trying to rebuild a CIA and installing it with FBI.

Mostly because I already use Luma and don't feel like dealing with the process of changing firmwares. It probably sounds silly to call it a lazy reason when I'm going out of my way to rebuild a cia just to patch a game.

well you did a work that don't seems easy to do :v good job
Do you think that we can also restore hamtaro there ?

NTR CFW is not an actual CFW, though. All you do to use it is launch a BootNTR app. I use Luma as well and BootNTR (specifically BootNTR Selector) works just fine. You just move the files that the OP tells you to move to your SD card, install one of the CIAs for it (it doesn't matter which one), follow the on screen instructions after you launch the app (you might have to launch the app again to actually get BootNTR running), then launch the game. If you see a green flash when the game loads, you've done everything correctly. You don't have to switch CFWs at all.

I do remember reading about someone doing a hamtaro restoration since the files are there and translated! We just don't have a way to access them in the US version (unless you patch it. I don't have a link to the post at the moment).

That's easier than I thought, I feel a little silly since I never really looked into it.

Thank you! For the Hamtaro restoration patch, I can't really say whether it's compatible with this patch or not. It depends on which files it modifies, if both patches modify the same files they might not be able to be used at the same time.

I updated my post to explain the details of launching BootNTR a little more.

Also, you don't need to install one of the Mode 3 CIAs if you have an o3DS. ToT doesn't use extended memory mode and Mode 3 is used for running NTR with games such as Sun/Moon and MHXX.
