![]() *NOTE - There are no plans to translate the script or NPC dialog. The amount of hacking required to format the text is too much work for us to undertake. This patch translates almost everything except for the dialog, so the game is easier to understand. Also, all the team members are currently busy with real life. I'm pretty sure that there will be a "final" patch, but I don't know when or how long it will be until it's finished.* The semi-final beta of the patch has been released! You can grab v0.99 from one of the links at the end of this post. Here's the info from the included readme. QUOTE Welcome to the semi-final release of the translation patch for Final Fantasy IV DS. What, you're just here for the free food? Sorry to be the one that has to break the news to ya, but the moogles have already eaten it all. Why attempt such a project some might ask? Well, FFIV was the first FF game I ever played. The memorable pixelated scenes are forever etched into my memories. When I heard that the game was being remade on the DS I could barely keep myself from creaming my pants. Cecil was coming home. So, now that I've bored you to death with useless chit-chat lets get on to the "info". The original project was founded by none other than the omniscient being known as BelmontSlayer. After starting to translate the menus I decided to post a topic about the project on GameFAQs. The mods deleted it in less than five minutes and left all the fanboys in tears. So what did I do? Why I posted it on GBAtemp instead! After dozens of posts of support I received an IM from a forum user who called himself Jisteatin. He explained to me that he had some experience with ROM hacking and would like to help out in anyway possible. Next up was Raganook who contacted me with the eagerness to help and a willing heart to learn. With his 1337 Japanese language skills our progress speeded up like Tellah casting Meteo on crack! Thus was the formation of "the team". We spent OVER 9000 hours translating random Japanese words and phrases to bring you this release. I hope you enjoy it! +--------------+ |How To Install| +--------------+ 1)Extract the files contained in the .zip to the same folder as the FFIV DS ROM. Make sure that there are no other ROMs in the folder! 2)Run xdelta.bat and wait until the black prompt disappears. 3)Put the newly created nds file patched.nds onto your flashcart. 4)Enjoy! +-------+ |CREDITS| +-------+ BelmontSlayer Jisteatin Raganook +--------------+ |SPECIAL THANKS| +--------------+ Doink - For creating the FFIV DS translation wiki. 94dan - For suggesting that I go back to the ye olde style spells for a cleaner look. Carisear - For identifying a typo in the weapon names. B4mV - For correcting us on a typo on boss names. Demon Wall is not Leviathan. GBAtemp - For not deleting my topic for "illegal activities" like the asshats at GameFAQs did. FF4.WIKIDOT.COM - For providing a wealth of information and hosting the project page. You - For actually reading this gigantic wall of text...or did you just skip to the end? Download Mirror 01 Mirror 02 This post has been edited by BelmontSlayer: Feb 17 2008, 06:32 AM |

thanks a million
Don't worry about the dialog (unless you can magically and simply copy/paste the dialog from the GBA port somehow) |

QUOTE(valyr @ Dec 19 2007, 03:35 AM) There are no "text files". Most of the text is stored inside of .msd files which can be read in any hexeditor that supports Unicode. The files themselves are called: babil_ability.msd babil_battle.msd babil_common.msd babil_item.msd babil_menu.msd ...and so on. |

If you wanted to even do the story, I bet it wouldn't be hard. the entire games script is already translated in the GBA version.

Is it possible to extract the english text from the gba version and put it in the nds version?
That would save alot of time and work translating the rom. |

I'm working on the FFTA2 translation. Most notably I translated all of the laws.
But dfeufeu made it really easy on us. He gave us charts of text, we translated them, then gave it back to him. So thats the experience I have with translating. Hacking? Zero. This post has been edited by Raganook: Dec 19 2007, 04:16 PM |
