Nintendo isn't out of announcements, even after their Spotlight, it seems, as a new game was revealed during their Treehouse. Metroid: Samus Returns is a reimagining of the 1991 title Metroid II: Return of Samus.

Developer MercurySteam will be handling the game, and are known for developing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. It'll release on Semptember 15.

It's silly Nintendo is keeping this a 3DS-exclusive because if they also released it on the Switch that would steal away sales, those who intend to get on the 3DS would. I'd bet sales would be lower on the Switch but man, this would be cool to play in high definition.

I agree, it really doesnt make much sense. I dont have a switch so im glad its on the 3ds but theres no great reason it cant be on both. Maybe Mercury Steam doesnt want to/ isnt comfortable porting it?

Nintendo won't be releasing games that go on both the 3ds and Switch. Nintendo knows they can get more sales if they release on both platforms but that would split the user base and reduce 3ds or switch sales. People said the same thing with Wiiu and 3ds. Only a couple of games went on both (Mario Maker, Super Smash Bros) but they were slightly different.

This game has been in development for at least a year or two. Nintendo also just released the new 2ds so they don't plan on killing the console soon. I am pretty sure Nintendo also wants to move away from 2d Metroid games (at least on home consoles). They are going to stick with the prime series for console releases. Think of it like how Pokémon keeps their main games on handhelds.

I'm not saying I don't want it on the switch. I just want to be fair and look at multiple perspectives (like the mediator I am).

The reason it could not be coming out on the switch is probably because they are gonna add some touch screen features on the 3ds, that they don't feel able to reprogram them to fit the switch.

Bringing back Metroid from the game graveyard? Feel free to do the same thing with Advance Wars. Preferably a new entry (although a remake of Dual Strike would be alright too). And no, Intelligent Systems, Fire Emblem style relationships ARENT necessary for AW.
