So what's next on the reinand feature list? Everything piracy-wise has been concoured....what other ideas do you have in mind? I like the idea of using my 3ds outside the box but it's still just a 3ds lol

For some reason, the way you phrased that makes me think of my 3DS singing "I'm just a 3DS" (to the tune of Schoolhouse Rock's "I'm Just A Bill") LOL.

since tubehax is down (107.211.140.65) are we in trouble when leaving the 3DS WiFi on and close the lid or is reinand protected against accidentally updating? I am afraid of the update nag.

Is there any chance someone can compile the latest loader.cxi for me? I'm pretty sure the one that's included with the release doesn't use the .rnp patches (it uses a patches.dat file), and I'd like to try adding the region-free eshop for my region-swapped N3DS as a patch. I can download all the required files and dependencies, and I can compile Reinand just fine (with .rnp patches instead of patches.dat in the /data/patches folder), but for some reason I keep getting errors trying to make the loader. I've updated devkitARM, ctrulib, ARMips, msys, makerom, pretty much all of it. I have no idea why I keep getting the errors.

What's new in this loader?

It adds the ability to read .rnp patches from the rei/patches folder. These are basically like the NTR memory patches. As long as you know the title you're patching, the patterns to look for to start writing your patch, and the appropriate patch, you should be able to add and remove these patches at will without remaking your loader.cxi every time you add something.
All I did was patch the "country response" for NIM to always report US as my N3DS country code. It was in Yifan Lu's loader, so I just copied the pattern and patch she had found and made an .rnp file out of it. I'm excited to see if it works, I just have to get home from work to try it out.

EDIT: I mean, as far as I know, that's how it works. I could be terribly wrong, but hey, that's what an emunand is for, right?

Ok, so heres my problem. I am attempting to use sysupdater to update my 10.7 emunand to 11.0. I am incapable of using system settings as it always gives me an error, which is why i use sysupdater. for some reason, it always tells me "failed to install NATIVE_FIRM!"... does anyone know what causes this or how to avoid this error?

use the latest ReiNand(older one had issues with firm write protection I think), and go update through system settings.

you should be able to download the one for your model (N3DS or O3DS), then extract it to the root. this will probably fix the issue sysUpdater and system settings have

no im not sure, which is where i have the problem. where did you find the links you provided. i could only find links to "cfw" and "rop"
https://github.com/Reisyukaku/ReiNand/releases I linked to this a few posts ago.

below "Downloads", you would see "ReiNand-v4.1_N3DS.zip" and "ReiNand-v4.1_O3DS.zip". download the one for the kind of console you have, then extract it to the root of your SD card.

Just a heads up, if you're using the newest ReiNand commit (not the release, the one that uses the .rnp patches), it looks like the Region-Free CIA patch breaks CIAs on a region-swapped console (you can install them by FBI, but they don't show up in the home menu). The Region-Free Cart patch works fine, though. I only use US (or romhacked) stuff, and that's what I swapped my console to, so I don't mind losing that functionality. I just deleted that patch from my SD card, and everything shows up again. I haven't checked it on my US console yet, so I don't know if it will actually affect most people.

EDIT: It looks like the Region-Free Cart patch AND the Region-Free CIA patch have to be on for out-of-region carts to work. However, having the RF CIA patch on basically hides all your installed CIAs on region-swapped AND native consoles. When you remove the patches, they all show up back on the home menu (even if you had them in folders) and gift-wrapped...

Same thing here. I was facing a strange bug on Streetpass, so I compiled a new version of ReiNand, and all my cias just disappeared. When I removed those patches, all my games showed up again. gift-wrapped --'

At least, the Streetpass bug seems to be gone...

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
