Let's be honest, if XYZ exploit was released today and patched by Nintendo tomorrow, we'd be right back in the exact same situation.... People whining and begging. Why bother?

<5.4 is easy enough to find...

5.4 is getting more and more difficult to find, if exploit XYZ was released ALL consoles you would buy from stores would come with a hackable firmware, that's already a BIG difference (and it would stay like that for at least a few months)

and I suppose someone that bought a system yesterday, went online and thought 'oh i wonder if theres any hax for this?' can get fucked right? right
This is a really good point, like me I bought my console on the 4th of December last year, at that time I hadn't even looked into Wii U hacking and homebrew. Thought it would have come a long way since it's release in 2011 (!). I didn't even look at what version I had either, but assuming I had 5.5.0, maybe 5.4 but most likely 5.5.0. So there would have been no way for me to prevent updating past hackable firmware.

Yeah, that happened to me. My console came with 5.5.0. Finding a console on <5.4.0 is pretty difficult now.
(Yes, I tried looking for an exploitable console, but I couldn't find one)

I could have sought for one, but I had absolutely no money left after the purchase, only a euro which I bought a hamburger of from McDonald's :P. So I would either have to sell my Wii U again. Or replace it for another Wii U package. The store I bought it at had one Windwaker HD pack left, and I think those had 5.4 on them but I wanted Splatoon + MK8. So no returning and exchanging for me. :/ still have warranty till December this year.
