Guys you have to be really careful buying eshop games to download. I just bought a few but like @the_randomizer said, it sat in Pending... I got rid of Obtain DNS still would not download so I had to let the update run download first, which it did, it sat there all ok games downloaded, ran update delete then my problem was then I went back into system settings to set Auto dns back up soon as I entered back into the main menu it updated itself asap and I pulled the plug just in time, luckly its ok but surely there must be a better way to get games of eshop to your main menu cause I was an inch away from updating fully! :(

I ran the update remover begging it was still ok, when I booted up again and it was with a jammy bit of luck!!!

So firmware spoofing (5.3.2. spoofed to 5.5.0 ) does not protect you from getting the 5.5.0 system update???
What is the best method to download new shop items and DLCs using the nnu-patcher regarding domain-blocking?

Currently I have blocked nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net, nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net, nus.cdn.shop.wii.com, nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net and nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net but I assume I'll have to unblock some (?) or all (?) of them to access new games and dlc from the eshop...?

alright, I'll try to buy the Mario Kart DLCs 1+2 tonight using this method.

does accessing the eShop from the game work too, or should I go directly to the shop (no clue if the Mario Kart combination pack DLC1+DLC2 is available directly from the shop or via ingame shop menu only)

the trouble is you need to download the update fully for the vc games to download next inline setting them as first does not work. You have to be so careful I stress this!

I really don't know what to say for the best just please be careful cause you need to disable all domains for your games to download properly, actually disable dns of your wifi full stop! I had to download the update fully to download the vc titles to my main menu but yes soon as you come out of system settings it goes asap into installing it and very quickly at that :(

Edit: I suggest what pedro mentioned above> un-tick your dns on wifi go through the exploit, access eshop download your titles and then somehow put dns back on but don't know how you go about avoiding your installing the update coming out of system settings? I'm not sure whether unlocking your domains via the opendns website works different and keep dns active in system settings/wifi connection? I'm really not confident at all now trying eshop again with any downloads to test I worried like mad on the last go!

just to clarify, you bought and downloaded the mk8 dlc via eShop using the nnu-patcher WHILE having the update servers (all? which ones?) blocked?

Yeah I found this out it does work ok with demos/dlc it did with me yesterday but it does not work for some odd reason with purchased there and then VC games/full games from eshop :(

With demos/dlc, set as first, all you have to do is reset wiiu and back into the main menu and they download all ok but with vc and full game titles it does not work that way.

Did you purchase your DLC there and then or was it already purchased and you re-downloaded it again?

What domains does WUP use to download titles and title updates? That would be the domain that the Wii U needs access to for downloading them. It would seem though, that Nintendo has some checks and balances in place that doesn't allow downloading of purchased titles without downloading other system titles first, which would require the update servers.

I can't wait for a way to really get rid of the update nag, blocked updates here and even with then blocked it always fails to download the update...wish the update remover didn't just stop it from doing whatever it does and could get rid of that nand space...soon

Yep, that's right, but one server "nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net" has unblocked because its domain name too long and i cannot block it like others.

Just bought them today.

What domains did you have blocked exactly via opendns?, that might be the key could you copy & paste your blocked domains down for us so I can compare with mine maybe I have something blocked I should not.
I have these blocked:-
c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.shop.wii.com
nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net

So from what I've been hearing, TubeHaxx is the way to go when it comes to blocking while maintaining eShop access
I'm not sure how to even use tubehax?

I only know off the opendns way.

Here's a blurb from a github I found.
  1. How to use TubeHax:
  2. 1. Download the Youtube Application off the Nintendo E-Shop (it's free, if you already have it, make sure it's up-to-date)
  3. 2. Go to System Settings, Internet, and change the DNS of the network you're connected to: 107.211.140.065 (only the first DNS, keep the second one 0.0.0.0)
  4. 3. Download the homebrew starter kit off of http://smealum.github.io/3ds/ (and follow the instructions on there)
  5. 4. Open Youtube and select your firmware (you only have to do this the first time.)
  6. 5. if done correctly, the Homebrew launcher will load properly.

Thanks but too complicated I think maybe if I can select a certain domain off it will probably work ok. What domains are you blocking and not to use eshop?

I haven't set this up yet, but will be when I get home. I haven't even performed the OS Driver exploit yet so who knows how long I'll be stuck on that step for first launch.

But Reecey, it's quite simple for Wii U (those instructions are for N3DS):

1. Enter System Settings on Wii U > Network Options
2. Change DNS to Manual, and enter 107.211.140.065 for your first server
3. Save settings and try the exploit for eShop again
