Not going to happen. Trust me on this. I know nothing about hacking but what I do know is psychology and how consumer sales work. A product shipping with this patent will not sell. Any product. After it becomes public that product X is just working on ONE respective system and can neither be used on any otehr system nor resold, people will stop buying it. And word of mouth is strong, especially when it comes to this kind of stuff.
What we are seeing here is EXACTLY the same thing that happened with movies in their first twenty to thirty years. EVERYTHING about games is exactly the same as it was with movies back then. And then, they made Hollywood. And why did they do that? Because of patents and copy protections and whatnot. But those things did not matter in LA where everyone could make a movie without worrying about any patent. Companies like MGM, Universal and Paramount got big because they used stolen technology and gave it to every creative person for free. And now, those companies are the frontrunners for copy protection. Ironic.
Same thing will happen to games. Some companies will try this patent and will fail miserably. And others that create small indie titels that can be played everywhere, pirated and what not will succeed. The same thing happened with the music industry by the way so trust me when I say that this thing here means nothing. The future is a different one, not protection against used sales...

This is basically the same situation when you download a game onto a console. You can't use it on another console without paying for it again and downloading it there or (in some cases) transferring everything completely over onto another console or handheld, deleting the original copy in the process.

With downloads, though, no one SEES it as much. With a physical copy, on the other hand, everyone is just kinda used to being able to take their game over to another console and pop it in and it works. When they get that taken away from them, THEY NOTICE.

You're right. It's all about the psychology.

WRONG. Take a look at PC gaming.
ten years ago PC gaming was as console is now
with the bigest difference that used sales didn't bother publishers much (almost no one did it)

(A game usually fits in many of these categories)
-just about all games tell you in their EULA that you are not allowed to resell them
-most require connection to some internet server to be installed (enforcing the account or install count limit)
-many of them now state in the EULA that the publisher is allowed to disable your copy remotely at a whim
-many can only be reinstalled 2-4 times even by the first owner
-many are tied to some account like your "gamertag" (or however that xbox thing is called)
-newest trend is to require a constant internet connection for everything, even for single player

In result you can sell (or even gift to your siblings) almost no games

dropping sales are used as a reason to implement even more restrictions
this makes a change in the near future unlikely, even if the customers would stop buying

I see no reason why this isn't comming to consoles too
the big publishers simply do it at the same time thus avoiding large customer shifts between them
I don't think most console gamers will suddenly play mostly indie games

maybe a big outcry in 2015 will change something but for the next console gen that will be to late
explanation: EA turns off online service for games after 1-3 years to get you to buy the new version
but since 2012 EA PC games require inet connection not just for multiplayer but constantly
the EULA says they can fuck you over if they want to
do the math

I was wondering, since d2x v10 supports many USB peripherals, there is any chance that would tueidj implement some kind of USB controller / GC-to-USB Controller to let us, new Wii users with console without GC ports, try the joy of Devolution? :D

USB gamepads don't have a common protocol and writing a HID parser is as enjoyable as hammering in a nail with your head.
so I'd say it's not likely to happen ... MAYBE for something specific like the GC-to-USB adapter you mention.

For now, the closest thing you have is the USB mouse support.

So I have tons of gamecube games, and I ripped them all to my HDD using WiiFlow. I load them using DIOS MIOS. If I swap to using Devolution, will I need to re-rip all my games, or will it simply just ask for the disc and verify it?

whats the difference between dios mois and devolution

Dios Mios has to be installed into your mios slot and runs games in GC mode, while Devolution doesn't need to be installed and runs games in Wii Mode, but Devolution has AP measures.

@jos90:
Devolution doesn't need a patched IOS to access USB devices.
The version of d2x has nothing to do with gameCube.

@superthorn96:
DIOS MIOS replace the MIOS and the console run in GameCube Mode.
Devolution use IOS58 (instead of MIOS) and the console run in Wii Mode, allowing access to usually shutdown devices while in gameCube Mode (like USB/Bluetooth/Mem2)

pBullet:
It depends how you ripped them. If they are 1:1 (full, unpatched, ISO files) then it will work fine. Just verify the disc once.
If they are patched/trimmed/extracted, then you will have to re-dump them first.

As far as I'm aware they all vary in size, meaning that they are not 1:1, they are trimmed. So I need to redump every single one of my gamecube games?

As thrilling as Devolution sounds, that would take nearly an entire day or more. I suppose there is no alternative route?

My games take exactly 9 minutes. I use cleanrip or usbloadergx (depending on if its already running) and have yet to encounter a problem with those methods. and my HDD is not very fast, but it really helps.
i checked on the speed, becuase i read a few posts her that devolution runsg ames faster and i wanted to test that and i was surprised not only that this is true, but that it works so flawlessy. now once we get that widescreen patch i am probably not going to leave the house for a week or so^^

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I didn't see it right away. Is there a build of this available that just uses the regular GC memory cards? The dev made it sound as if it would be easy to do.

as it is right now if you have one inserted it detects it and uses it.
