    Hello everyone,
Soon, Super Mario Maker will be released (in less than a month).
I want to launch a poll about Super Mario Maker vs Zelda Wii U. Do you think the Zelda, orginally titled as Zelda Wii U will be launched on Wii U or NX? Do you think Super Mario Maker will be THE game of the Wii U?
So here is the poll :)

Knowing Nintendo's history of Zelda game releases you may be right.

Mario Maker isn't even exactly an actual game, it's more of a "create levels yourself".

Nintendo even decreased from including 100 stages to 60 stages apparently so that's great.

Zelda will be great, will be dual platform, will be better than mario maker but won't have the same lasting appeal.
Once you beat Zelda, it's unlikely there's good incentive to return in contrast to the almost unlimited levels of Mario Maker. Still it depends largely on the quality of the MM community's work whether that is the case.

The price that Mario Maker is going for is just downright ridiculous because it's not like there's even a proper story mode to go through, yeah sure, Mario platformers are to get from point A to point B but this is mostly like I said, create it yourself.

Whereas with Zelda I'll be getting an immersive experience with a solid single player story mode so you can't really compare the two just because they're games.

It could be released on both but it will most likely not be NX-exclusive, why? Because Nintendo have made it clear they are trying to give existing Wii U owners their money's worth and pushing back the Wii U game that everyone has been waiting for for years back to the NX would just make the Wii U seem like even more of a ripoff. They have said they are focusing on the Wii U right now and therefore won't be mentioning any details about the NX until next year. Plus the entire reason for people speculating that Zelda U will be released on the NX instead is the change in release date from "2016" to "TBD" which is not a lot to go on. It doesn't mean it won't be released in 2016, in fact it doesn't really mean anything, it's intentionally ambiguous. Hell for all we know it might mean we will see a 2015 release after all. People are just quick to think the worst of things when they don't really have anything tangible to base those assumptions on.

Super Mario Maker is more of a level editor than a game so it doesn't really compare to Zelda but it's pretty cool in its own right. It's what people do with it that make the game, and that is left to be seen but I think we will see some pretty creative uses of the near limitless options you have with the level editor. It'll be good enough to keep my thoughts off of Zelda U for a while at least :)

Well I agree but at the same time wario ware diy was basically in the same boat and sold for the price of a regular Nintendo game.

But like you said they are too very different types of games to begin with

I...get the impression that you think Mario Maker is going to be an awesome game. It's an editor. Perhaps a good editor. Perhaps it inspires creative talents to truly create a good campaign*. But in the end, it's an editor.

    *like...port newer SMBW.

    ERm...a few differences:

    1) both these games have long single player campaigns included in them. Many people buy 'em for that, and stay for the multiplayer.
    2) they're also more or less focused on the multiplayer aspect (except perhaps those just getting into the game). Mario is known for...well, certainly NOT the online multiplayer aspect
    3) these games are on PC. Not only do they have a longer tradition of games with editors (meaning they have both the knowledge, the player base and arguably much better controls for it as well)

I don't want to bash that game (if you insist on calling it that), but putting it in a same thread as Zelda is baffling.

    D. Splatoon is where it's at. I finally really got into it and it feels like crack (only speculating here, legal amphetamines are all I know.)

Let's face it folks, the NX is likely to be a huge disappointment and satisfy no one outside of a few cool gimmicks. Nintendo thinks the console is dead and is going in some weird far out direction. Good luck.

On a serious note. I am refusing to buy my boys Mario Maker. They will have a good time creating a few levels and playing some downloaded ones. Outside that, I expect 5-8 hours total playtime out of it which is more than they put in NSMBU and Luigi combined.

They have some leaves to rake in the fall if they really want it. It will be a good lesson.

If a level editor is the Wii U's that game, then that's a pretty lame generation. Yes, Super Mario Maker looks great, but just like the main Mario series as a whole this generation, the Wii U can do and deserves better.

As far as I see it, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. are the only contenders for the best Wii U game so far. It seems like a lot of the stuff that Nintendo does produce for the Wii U is filler titles now (except Splatoon). Zelda will no doubt be the Wii U's Swan Song but I doubt an NX release just yet.

People keep saying that they're going to go multi-platform like Twilight Princess, but that only happened once so it's not like a consistent pattern. Majora's Mask was released late in the N64's life cycle, it didn't show up on the GameCube. Skyward Sword was released late in the Wii's life cycle, and it didn't show up on the Wii U. There's not enough evidence to make an assumption yet.

Slightly bizarre comparison - two completely different games being released a year apart.

Mario Maker looks brilliant and 100+ levels included should make it a must buy for even people who don't like actually making levels and would prefer playing them. The ability to download levels adds longevity.

The new Zelda will be the Wii U swansong as probably the last major first party game released for the console, it it is released for the Wii U at all.

I don't know..., I like a good Mario 2D Jump 'n Run every now and then but I never thought that any of them was THE game of a console generation. I'm not really interested in creating my own levels and I don't think that downloaded fanmade levels will get me excited. Zelda Wii U will easily steal the show!

^Really? I mean, my avatar should give you a hint regarding my gaming roots, but surely Super Mario World is THE game of the Snes, and a good shout for THE game of the 16-bit generation. I'd struggle to choose between Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Super Mario World as the best 2D platformer.

Super Mario 3D World is fantastic.

...w-w-w-WHAAT?! I really, proper enjoyed Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but tha what?! Each to their own of course, but no way whatsoever..... only Yoshi's Island challenges SMW for the 16bit platformer crown if you ask me (Zelda LttP taking the overall crown! ;) )
    SM3D World IS fantastic though!

Is Zelda coming to Wii U?
No (in my opinion). It's been transferred over to NX or we'd have seen at least a couple of seconds of new footage, on the Wii U of course, to tide us over, at e3. I'll be chuffed if it does for all those who want it, but I think they're gonna be disappointed.

Is Mario Maker THE Wii U game?
I doubt it.... but it's not out yet so who knows? It looks fabulous, and despite me trying to stop looking at any more info, I'm STILL clicking any link I see (heard the Rayman head has made a level which'll be on the disc - woot, etc! EDIT: Ack, ninja'd by wiicube! )

It's fun but just a rehash of Mario 3D Land in HD.
