I bought my 9 yr old Son a Switch for Xmas...He really wants odyssey too.
So we have 'hello world' running through a web browser and that's all at this point...correct?
It could take years for things to evolve.
My question is, are you guys updating for odyssey.
He really want's this game.
Thx.

You should update, since Switch homebrew will take years to complete, I don't know if you want to wait 2 or 3 years for hacking the switch... and then, play Oddysey, right?

Well, I don't have a Switch, but you should update it, if he really wants Oddysey, right? I can wait for homebrew on the Switch.

There's nothing currently on Switch homebrew also, so, don't worry, this will take years to complete it like Wii.

If it's for your son just update it. Your son likely will be more interested in the actual games rather than emulators. And based on what devs have said you likely won't be playing 3.0.1+ games on 3.0.0 anytime soon, if ever. It's the main reason I updated, even though homebrew is already possible in simple forms. Too many good games out or on the horizon to make simple userland homebrew worth it to me.

come on baby, its hard to do it,but your son is first than anything...damn it, its hard for me too but you have no more choices than keep that one 4 you and get another for him.

I'm sorry, but this shouldn't be an issue. YOUR KID wants to play a game that requires you to update. Just update. Not to mention, there's no guarantee that the Switch scene will give us anything worthwhile anytime soon.
Unless userland homebrew and a set list of less than 30 games is worth it, which for me it really isn't. Unlikely to play any newer games anytime remotely soon, and piracy will also be stuck to the previously mentioned game list. I could be surprised in the future, but I doubt it would happen anytime soon.

If a nine year-old wants to play Super Mario Odyssey, update to 3.0.1 and play Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm staying on 3.0.0, but I don't care about Super Mario Odyssey.

Wow this is getting out of hand, but I won't be commenting much on that.

If you bought the system for him, then he should decide what he wants. If you was asking me? I updated months ago. Been updated. Ever since sonic mania came to switch. I continue to update. Mostly
  • Nintendo switch updates bringing newer features to the system that makes the system more complete.
  • exploits on firmware so early is severely limiting the list of games you can play (example ps4 1.76)
  • Currently not much has been announced for a end users (Like me) to actually get excited for.
Is fine if you want it but not really my concern now, there is new games coming and I want to play then. I don't have super mario odyssey but maybe when the price goes down, I'll have it. If you want homebrew, why not just buy another switch, that what most people do, but good luck if you can find one with the proper firmware and won't need pokken tournament DX scalping prices. :ninja:

Yeah, you are giving to him then let him play it. If you want it for homebrew and piracy.. Buy other one for yourself and running "hello world" and waits for years to come or less. :)

dont listen to the Nintendo schills here implanted at gbatemp
dont listen to the few who have accidently updated and want you to be stuck in the same boat as they are when homebrew floats up.
wait
spooning firmware is just around the corner
Merry Christmas and Happy New years
