visually, the game looks amazing. exactly how i would want a 3d yoshi island to look like.

as long as this isn't outsourced to some studio (so the gameplay is good), i'm hyped!

He listed the first two Yoshi's Island games before showing footage of this one so it's almost definitely not a remake, the game's still in development and the levels in the video probably aren't even going to make it until the final game.

But OOT had way better visuals than All-Stars. Also returns is obviously not a port, but do you mean it's a remake as in, it's the same levels and everything?
Let's just call Returns 3D a "minimal effort remake" meaning that it's the exact same game with the same assets and everything but with some minor new stuff added in. OoT on the 64 doesn't live up to todays standards, prerendered backgrounds, 25fps and other things made it worth remaking. All-stars still looks good to this day I think. Remaking it wouldn't really add much, same goes for Yoshi's Island, they would be better of re-releasing the SNES game with added 3D like the 3D NES classics. But unless I'm misunderstanding something, by saying that it's the third installment it actually means that it's a continuation of the series and not a remake... ???

EDIT: Added 3D for clarification

the original yoshi's story had that art style because shigeru miyamoto refused to make it 3D like DKC, and now they go and do that.
not to mention the one supposed to be the 3D yoshi series is Yoshi's story ( which is part of island series in a way i guess ), iwata ignored it completely there though..

3D graphics are so easy to make and animate that nowadays i see stuff like this as just lazy,
I mean the game could have an awesome colorbook style or something, but instead it's just cheap 3d models and vaguely artsy backgrounds.

as long as it's fun it's ok I guess, so they better keep it away from TOSE and Artoon

... are you shitting me?

Go look at Donkey Kong Country, then Donkey Kong Country Returns. They are, by far, not using the same assets. The fact that one is a sprite-based game on the SNES and the other is a fully-3D game on the Wii should be the first tip-off.

Most likely yes.

My post was just to show that the people going "wait this looks like the levels from the first one" weren't just talking out of their ass.

LOL, I'm talking about the Wii game and the 3DS downport. Not the SNES games.

Apparently not many people here are familiar with level 1-1 from the original?

'Cause it sure as hell LOOKS like a remake of the first one.
Just, you know, with a wider screen so you can see left and right further at once.
I saw some parts that looked familiar in the trailer and a lot that didn't. It looks more like they remade some classic levels, which personally I am OK with. I huge fan of Yoshi's Island.
Honestly I have a huge bias in this conversation since I am a huge Yoshi fan and have always enjoyed the games he's been in. So I am looking forward to this game as well as the other Yoshi game that was announced earlier this year.

I have to agree--I am not a fan of the 3D modelized (yeah, it's a word...well, now it is) visuals of the NSMB games and now Yoshi games (I'd much prefer a unique art-style that isn't 'Neo Dead Polgyon'), but I also concur that if it's fun, I'll get over it.

Fast.

Frankly from the footage that they announced it with this looks kind of bad. It looks incredibly slow compared to the first and seems to have really horrible elements like completely static egg throwing. Plus the shitty 3d and art filter look is plain nasty.

Still, I'm kind of biased towards the first from speedruns and it has a lot of time to shape up.

I became interested in Yoshi's Island through speedruns and I'd put fast paced deep mechanics above anything else and it really doesn't look that bad to me. Game trailers always play slower than you normally would during normal gameplay and you're used to watching speedruns. Also, where'd you see static egg throwing?
