see the permissions are not the problem here... its the extracting... how do you do it in your linux... or should i extract in windows? im using ubuntu... and thanx for the quick reply!
i had the extraction error until i opened from in nautilus i know your permissions are set i did the same thing and still got the error.
if that doesn't work might be a bad download.

I take it you're not a guy right?!

Reminds me of when my girl comes home with a small container of butter instead of the big one because she thought the little one was cute!

Anyways... anyone know how to stream video with VLC on this?

My pc address is 192.168.1.2 and it has 4 shared harddrives availablle (through windows) and I wanna watch a movie through vlcmedia on the xwhiite linux streamed from my pc... i have vlc on both (of course).. Can someone give me a hint? If I was using windows based I would have no problem... i am not sure how to do it on linux with vlc... my wii address is 192.168.1.4 any help with this would help me soooo much!

Well.. i have hard time running this. I've partitioned my sd to 2 partition with acronis disk director, one fat16 (1.3gb) and one with ext3 (700mb). Because i am on windows and i can't find my ubuntu live cd (i'm also bored to download again ubunut) so i moded usb hdd drivers so that my sd adapter will be reconised as hdd on usb and eventually windows showed the second partition. i also used ext2,3 drivers so that it can be read from windows. I extracted the contents of tar file to the ext3 partition with 7-zip, but when i run the loader it showed me that it can't mount root and that my second partition (rvlsdb) has the size of one byte and something about super blocks...

Can anyone tell me what to do in windows in order to make this work?

I assume that acronis did a good work (i made 1st partition primary and the 2nd (ext3) logical), so maybe abyone can tell me an extractor that extracts .tar files to ext3 partition without the need of ext3 drivers?

I am not sure but you may be able to use Winrar to convert in to a .rar and then extract it to the said directory... you will probably have to manually type a command in winrar to extract to that partition...that is if winrar can do it... other than that... you real best option is to use the ubuntu live cd... it is so much easier... I am going to attempt to make a video of this.. I will probably just make it into an .avi file and upload it to somewhere....because I don't want youtube crappy as compression to reduce the quality of my cheap cam...hehe

I don't think winrar would work for whiite because of the file permissions/or the /dev device nodes. Use gnu tar!

In any case, I already have my beta copy of Bliight propragating to different places on the internet now. Keep a look out, it'll be available sometime later tonight.

Just a though at the time.. I started looking in the Winrar myself to see if there was a command and I really couldn't find anything close.

Yet...

I still have a problem streaming to the xwhiite on wii.. I think I am putting in the right stuff...

Is there anyway on this xwhiite wii that I can access shared network drives on my windows pc? They marked as shared through windows... but how do I access them or can I? through xwhiite wii? Or do I have to use ubuntu?

I thought I could get it to stream but it's not as easy as I am thinking?

does it happen to have linux headers and build essential pre installed?
for compiling source ect ect.

installed xwhiite0.2 and it runs ok
i dont have internet addapter so i cant try things out but it runs.

the only probelm im having is that the ir sensor rocgnizes the wii mote pointer in a funny way... its all over the place sometimes!

plus, how can i mount my ipod in whiite?

I would ask BertJan that question... that was his added feature to the 2nd release. I wish someone else would try and see if they can play video over LAN with this on VLC or Mplayer to let me know if I am doing something wrong or not.

can i install this using windows or i need linux on my pc to install?
huh.gif

i dont have linux on my pc would like to try this
no you can download the ubuntu live-cd iso burn it and use that.(it runs from the cd no need to install)
i know there is a way(not as easy a way) to do it in windows but idk about that myself my self as i us Linux as my OS.

Yea.. the live CD works pretty damn good as I saw it.. It even had the Partioner installed already as I had to get pointed out that I needed to type a command in the terminal to access the GParted.

I don't know if this would do it... no one ever said it if it would or not.. http://rapidshare.com/files/171116944/gpar...ive-0.4.0-1.iso This is the live cd of the partitioner. I would imagine that it would let you partition your SD card.. but then there would be the other step and that is extracting the Xwhiite-linux v0.2 With GUI to the ext3 partition. Yet.. there has to be something out there that would do that as well from Windows.

If I figure that one out I will definately post those steps for us Windows fools...I mean users.
