thanks.
but do you think i should go with a current chip and just settle for bleach, or wait until a chip will support naruto.

will the current chips ever be able to play naruto with a firmware upgrade or w/e?

you never know, we cant predict the future, but it seems unlikely since none of the 10? modchips can run this game.

thanks.

Naruto likely cannot be supported with drive injection style chips (all of the modchips out right now are this type).

It will likely be several (meaning 8+) months before an advanced system modchip is announced for the Wii allowing for complete region unlocking.

So I'd "settle" for what's available right now 'cause otherwise you'll miss out on Bleach! (it's really fun!)

By settling, I'd suggest going open-source, so you're not spending more than $20 bucks, but still get current upgrades (as opposed to a clone).

I'm not so sure we can expect any true region unlocking for a lot longer than 8 months -- look at the 360.

PS3 has only just recently (less than a week ago) discovered an exploit that can *potentially* run backups -- it boots the disk, but won't launch the game. Newer firmwares seem to have killed the exploit also. Be happy the Wii even has a mod.

What ever happened to the action replay disc for the wii? I remember seeing about one coming out for the summer or near holidays but i cant find it anymore. It was supposed to allow import games to be played.

Well, it's not only how easy the system is to mod, but also how interested people in the scene are interested in doing whatever mods are out there. In terms of the 360, the easy firmware flash to play backups was discovered so quickly that people weren't really hoping to crack more of the 360 like they had the XBox1. From what I understand (I don't have a 360) the 360 is already a pretty versatile system in terms of media capabilities, so there isn't as much of a push to get exploits like the kind on the XBox1. I also think that a lot of people with a 360 still just use the XBox1 for XBMC and therefore aren't too interested in further exploiting the 360.

In terms of the PS3, not only is it a complicated system, but as of right now the capability of even making backups is out of the hands of almost everybody given the media used for the PS3, plus nobody really cares yet because the PS3 is so unpopular compared to the other two current-gen consoles. Also, can't you put Linux on the PS3 out of the box? The versatility allowed by that also stifles the need to mod the console. Due to the media issue for the PS3, it'll have to be a full out modchip and not a drive chip or something to allow people to dump game data to the hard drive and boot from that, and that kind of exploit takes a long time, especially given the situation I mentioned about the interest in the PS3 being so low.

The Wii is super popular and there was a quick and easy exploit we knew about from the Gamecube already, so it was only natural a drive chip came out so quickly. (of course, because of the GCs low popularity it took a long time for anyone to come up with the exploit for the GC in the first place). Add to that the fact that the Wii just isn't as capable of a machine for "extras" like the XBox1 or PS3 or the 360 due to the lack of a hard drive and more "PC-like" hardware, people just aren't interested in developing a full out modchip for the Wii - the only thing to look forward to is the potential for some cool bootable homebrew (a long way off probably due to development complexities, again, the lack of PC-ness) and full region unlocking.

Just my theories.

If you can execute your own Wii code, then you can easily add HDD support because Wii has USB ports.
