I googled and found that slims have an issue with the power/eject flex cable. I replaced the flex cable and it does exactly the same thing. Anyone have thoughts on what else it could be? Even with the power off it can act like I hit the eject button. Could it be the small circuit board that the ribbon cable connects to?

I would clean the connector and cable with some CRC electrical connector cleaner or 90% iso. I had to do this with one my slims a ways back it was just a bit dirty I guess up in the connector.
