Xbox one s disc drive issue

Hey all!
I am running across a strange issue that I haven't been able to find any info on after looking for about a week.

I have a one s that will only power on with the disk drive unplugged from power. I swapped disc drives and moved the board as well to no avail. I am wondering where to test on the disk drive so I can locate the fault and hopefully repair it. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Disc drives are only tied to the console, you cannot replace the drive as far as I know. Just like we've seen with the 360, each drive has unique keys, but so far this cannot be done the Xbox One drives.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
