Got a broken XBONE (would not power on)

I figured I'd at least salvage the HDD as I'm always needing extra space.
(HDD is a 2.5" 500GB Western Digital WD5000LUCX-28LYRY0)

But I'm having one heck of a time trying to get it seen to be formatted

I've got a 2.5" SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter that I connected the HDD to
I plug it up to my PC.
I hear the drive spin up but Windows will not detect it in disk management, diskpart or easeus partition master
Same when disconnecting everything and booting a Windows Bootable USB
Trying directly via SATA to my MOBO seems to bork my BIOS & POST (same on a laptop via the USB 3 Adapter) and it hangs
Hotplugging (hdd directly to mobo) and trying to read it with Linux (Linux Lite 3) fairs no better. (Power to HDD, no SATA, Boot Linux, Connect SATA)
Got as far as the partitions showing up (User Content, Temp Content, System Update, etc) but scanning with GParted is taking forever

All I want to do is format the thing so I can use it as an external for my Windows PCs
Any Ideas?

Hdd is bad imo. Even if you did get it working, I wouldn't trust it. Windows should pick it up right away if it is working properly.
