Hardware Xbox One External Hard Drive interfering with headset

I got a 2tb External Hard Drive from GameStop today, and as soon as I plugged it in, the audio from my headset started cutting in and out. It is not a problem with the adapter/ headset or the controller (I checked for both).
The hard drive seems to be interfering with the signal between my adapter and the Xbox. Is there any way to fix this or do I have to drop more money on a hard wire for the controller?

Keep the harddisk away from the Xbone, idk where you put it but leave a big gap between the two.
See if that fixes it, if not, go wired.

That's very odd. Does the drive use an independent power supply or is it powered via USB?
