Xbox's Major Nelson has just announced that the Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature will be launching fully for everyone on November 12. Microsoft has previously claimed that there will be over a hundred X360 games working on launch, ranging from most first-party titles, and assorted third-party games. The "New Xbox One Experience" dashboard update will also be on the same day.

Proud to be Portuguese but I am in USA.
I do not care about Xbox One but it is going to be my first time to say positive things bout Microsoft. They are making a right decision for it. I wish Sony will follow their steps. PS4's backwards compatibility for PS3 games -- Physical digital. Sighing.

Will you be able to pop in a 360 game disc and have it play? I bet not. Them dumb asses will be buying the same games again like noobs. Now if the discs work then that's 1 up for ms. The smart thing to to is keep the 360 and have 100% backwards compatibility......

Well...yes. Discs have been confirmed to work, and DO work, in preview builds.

In other news Microsoft will now hide sales data for the Xbox One. looks like they got sick of the overwhelming PS4 v Xbone sales numbers. So now they're removing them.

Great way to build confidence in new customers MS! keep them in the dark.

Sony just sent a survey detailing about PS2 classics and PS1 classics so we shall see what their hand is

lol BC 2 years into the console what a pathetic way to try and differentiate themselves. Microsoft and the Xbox have always sucked balls.

Ehh it's a step in the right direction, but still a big step backward from when backwards compatibility was included in the launch of a console and with support for nearly every game. It can't be that hard...the Xbox One is just a 360 with more RAM and a more powerful processor/GPU.

Yay, for Nintendo's last 3 home and handheld consoles!
Even not patching Homebrew on the last home console ( they could have pathed it you know! ) making nearly every previous system playable by homebrew!

In the mean time for BC I am enjoying my sec hand 360 with AAA Cheap ass Sec hand games!
As a result the Xbone has me not very interested. ( apart from Forza 6....that is...)

    Towards the NX!

Ha, I like how the Xbox One photo duplicates games in the background to make it seem like there are a lot of titles there (i.e. Banjo, Halo). Typical marketing ploy.

I've loved Nintendo's awesome backwards compatibility. The Wii U can still play GameCube games and like you said, all the past homebrew still works the same! They chose to include their past system's BIOS and OS, and it's literally just like having the past system within the new one. Of course, Microsoft and Sony can't do this because they still make a lot of money from their old systems and don't want to spite that.

Don't forget that their backwards compatibility went so far as to include a GBA slot on the DS and DS lite. Like I mentioned before, they literally encase their old hardware with new. And for the situations that they can't, Virtual Console does wonders.

I'd like to see some of the other guys even come close in terms of backwards compatibility.

I hate mario shit. That can mean only one thing: there really was now games on xbox360. I had all systems of previous gen, and MS's one was least playable, cause there was nothing to play.

Roll on the 12th - great news! One of the disc based games I've tried on the preview program was Mass Effect: no DLC, and some dodgy framerate issues, so it'll be interesting to see if both are fully fixed.
Only problem I can see with this is it being 2 days after the Fallout 4 launch, so I probably won't care  - they'll be there for when I need them though!!

    ORLY.....
360 (and PS3) were Power PC based, XO (and PS4) are x86. Completely different. 360 BC on XO as such is a pretty great technical achievement (and it'd be basically impossible to do PS3 BC on the PS4 due to the cell processor setup the PS3 had). I'm still unconvinced MS can get it working 100%, but will happily be proven wrong on the 12th!
If you watched the presentation this was taken from (back at e3) you'd know it was like a reel - at the time they only had first party games and a selection of 3rd party titles that were announced so that's all they could show... MS needs permission from 3rd party publishers to include the game in the list and sell on a new console (so do Sony and Nintendo if they do similar by the way). Also new licenses are required for any licensed content in game before that can be added too (the best example here is licensed music). More often than not this is agreed, but not every time: if you try to purchase the original PS1 classics Wipeout from the PlayStation Store and play you'll notice some tracks are missing, that's because they haven't got the license)

In other words, self-imposed limitations that were awfully stupid in retrospect now that consoles are basically just less-powerful gaming PCs. All probably just to avoid hacking and emulation, both of which happened anyway. Amazing that people still haven't realized just how much effort Microsoft and Sony put in to screwing over their customers above all else.

It's easier for devs to port, MS has even said they might put Halo 5 on PC just because it won't take much effort.

Or maybe, you know, it was because they honestly thought they could build a powerful gaming machine like that. The only real advantage the current pc-like setup has is ease of porting.
