How long are we going to be waiting for the Xbox 720? Absolutely ages. Years, in fact.

Xbox UK boss Stephen McGill has confirmed that we won't be seeing a next-gen Microsoft console until we've used up a few more diaries.

"This generation is here for a long, long time," he told Xbox Achievements.

"I think there's still a lot of legs left with the Xbox 360, so we're years away from contemplating what comes next."

"As you know, with Xbox 360 we constantly innovate with the current console you have, through extra services on Xbox Live that we can pump down the service, then obviously with Kinect; that's a massive game-changer for the industry, transforming what entertainment in games can be for friends and family."

McGill's stance comes as little surprise, considering that MS reckons Kinect will boost Xbox's lifespan by five years.

MS and Sony are basically stuck with the current generation for the forseeable future. I expect to see a dramatically upgraded Wii successor in the next 2 years, though. Now that more powerful hardware like the 360 and PS3 are actually cheap enough to be profitable, Nintendo can produce something on or above that level and continue making money (as they've done all this generation with the Wii hardware, unlike their competitors).

Microsoft will only do a follow up if Sony or Nintendo have something better coming along. Sony have too much at stake with the PS3 so its up to Nintendo and to be honest Nintendo would only really need to bring out something that is close to PS3.

Probably not, but he's paid to say it. I mean really, outside of the guys who pretty much have sex with the Kinect, no one believes it's a game changer, they just got a wad of cash to say it is.
