Hardware Writing Wii Drivers

I want to write drivers for the xbox 360 controller, I am not sure where to start, I would like to have a few pointers on where to go.

You would have to add USB support and proper PAD calls to an IOS. I'm not sure how you would go about doing this or how a software would act if this was attempted.

I understand that much, I just need info on how to interface with the USB ports.
