Hi , Could someone please explain me why the r4isdhc silver has to be upgraded within the 3ds/ds ? the problem is that i have updated my 3ds before i upgrade my r4, so now i can't use it anymore and what's worse, i don't know anyone who has a ds/3ds to fix it (i live in argentina where this is less common). Isn't the firmware upgrade just a memory write on the micro sd card file system? if so, why can't the flash card team upload the "pre patched" kernel and make life a little bit easier?

thanks for any response, any help will be appreciated. :)

No, actual firmware upgrades are stored on the flash cart itself.

Read the FAQ for more info.

"Q - People talk about a cart's firmware/menu/OS, what are these?"

When you download an actual firmware upgrade and put it on your MicroSD, it doesn't do anything. What you're downloading is the INSTALLER, you need to RUN it for the firmware update to actually get onto the flash cart itself (from the MicroSD).

No way around it, you need another DS model to update.
