Got my DS after release. I don't think there were any flashcarts available then. Maybe some slot2 device. I bought a DSi XL this spring and I haven't decided what flashcart to get yet so I'm sticking to my genuine carts and DSiWare for a while.

I had my DS before I even knew what a flash cart was, so the answer is, yes.

This

And if flash cards disappeared tomorrow, I'd still buy/rent games for the system. I've had mine since spring of 2006, and I'm still impressed as hell by the system and many of its games. Been gaming since the late 70s, and I don't think it would be a stretch to say DS is my favorite gaming device thus far.

There is a reason why there are about twice as many no's as yes'es.
A lot of people already bought systems before they knew about flashcards.

i think you might mean there are twice as many yes answers than no answers

I bought my DS before I at least knew about flashcarts, but if it wasn't for my flashcart, it'd have been sitting on my shelf for years. I mean I don't make a lot of my own money so I can't buy a lot of stuff and there's so many games out there that are worth playing but not worth the purchase. There's hardly any games worth the purchase.

i don't think this is very fair. at least say that you think there are hardly any games worth the purchase.

There's not many games that you'll be getting $30 worth of play time. There's a shit ton of games you'll buy, play through once, and then have no want or need to play it again.

EDIT: And for the record I've played A LOT of DS games through my flashcart. And through all my piracy I can tell if a game is worth the purchase or not. Although even if it's worth the purchase I usually don't bother. Only exception is No More Heroes since I just want to add them to my collection.

i had my first ds before there was a r4

then at 2007 i went to hong kong for my holiday and thats whrere i got my first flashcart

I would still bought a DS but i would only get the games that were highly scored by critics and fans but that would suck since i wouldn't of known about alot of games that scored bad but were actually good and all the eastern games that never get translated.

I don't think so. The thing that made me want to get a DS was all my friends playing Jump Ultimate Stars during lunch at school.

I bought my DS Phat on realse and i still use it. And befor i got my R4 i had never pirated anything ever... and i got my R4 about 2 years after i got my ds

HELL no. Well, actually, when I got my first DS, It was right when flashcards were mainstream. Right after the release of the DSONE, actually. SO, I don't see myself with a DS without flashcards x3

I'm afraid to say that I could only justify spending money on the DS after my mate showed me his R4. That's not because I'm a cheap bastard but because I'm unemployed and have very little money to spend on 'luxury' items.
