Get a Memento...

"The Memento Hack Team have released a PS2 hack for the 'Memor32' memory card which can be installed via USB from a Windows PC to play game backups without modchip. However, there is a downside, you also need a windows util to patch each game iso before burning in order to load the backup disc using the hacked memory card.

Keepgaming.com was excellent, I ordered it Thursday night, got it this morning, with the cheapest ground shipping too.

Works perfectly so far. Now if only the Guitar Hero guitar wouldn't be backordered practically everywhere, then I'd be having a truly great time.

Check craigslists for a guitar,. I got mine there. There are also some pretty cheap ones at walmart, not the name brand ones, but looks similar. I'm already sick of the game. Bought the damn guitar, rented and burned the game and now I'm sick of it. If you live in washington state and need the guitar, I'll sell it to ya!

QUOTE(Warcueid @ Dec 5 2007, 08:10 AM)They came in a cheap CD sleeve.
Mine did too, like two years ago. I think that's normal. But seriously, that long to ship one state is a little overboard.

It would be cool if gbatemp would hook up some kind of reviewing system. I know there are a few threads, but those are hard to sort through.

damn it you already received yours i was suppost to receive mines today but i guess its coming tomorrow

Yeah, I've had no complaints with mine so far. The only problem is that with my flip top, when I take out SM and I put in the backup, I have to be extremely careful and put it in just right. I put it in wrong one time, and my laser went berserk, the disc got slightly scratched, and it was just a bad experience overall. ;-;

Doesn't it stop first. Then you have to press a button to get the thing going again? I don't know why the laser would be going all over the place.

I don't have a flip top but when I tried the CD-ROM the first time it really sounded like my poor ps2 was about to explode. It seems that when the ps2 doesn't like something it starts up its self destruct sequence.

I reset the console and tried again and it worked fine. Now I always give it a few seconds before I open it up and swap discs, just to be sure everything's ready to go.

Apart from that, all DVD games I've tried have worked like normal. The drive isn't any louder or have any trouble loading or anything like that.

If I had started on this at least 1 year or so earlier I would have gone with the hdd method, but at this point it isn't worth it. I had already bought most of the good games I wanted, so there's only a dozen or so I still want to get. Not that many DVDs to use up in my case.

well i guess
I got tired of swapping disks.
grabbed an old hard drive formatted for the ps2
and copied some games over with my pc and i never went back

I like the fact that load times are a fraction of what you would get with optical media.

The only way the HDD would be cheaper is if you have an old one sitting around. Most people don't, so spending $30 on a stack of 100 discs is still tons cheaper. Plus, I'm on a mac, so I'm stuck a little, heh...

i was wondering if i have a HDD i have this thing on the back of my ps2 but i think thats a network adapter or is it a HDD

The network adapter allows you to add an HDD (hard drive) that's all. If you want to add one it needs to be an EIDE type hard drive and you'll need some specific software like HDAdvance.

alright well i got my swapmagic today and i put my dbz game in its on a dvd+rw so i put it in and i try to boot with swapmagic it just says not a valid ps2 disc what did i do wrong
