EDIT: I'll be installing it this weekend and will post on here with immediate results. (and maybe photos)

ok so from my understanding this is what i'm going to need to solderlessly mod my pin-cut wii:

wlip - 48 dollars
12f683 pic - free/cheap
programmer - about 15 dollars on ebay
yaosm - free
triwing screwdriver - 1 dollar

is that right? not bad, for about 65 bucks i can mod my wii without any risk of solder damage

to program the chip in the future i would have to pop it out of the wlip socket right?

thanks

Sounds about right. However for me, I'm going to be getting a friend to solder the Wiikey that I already have to the Wlip. I'll just save the adapter end - if need be, I can install a pic chip in the future. This works for now..

I'm excited for this weekend! Yay Wlip!

Sure, provided your programmer will actually program your PICs... Sigh...

I'm no expert on programmers but if it's failed to program every chip you throw at it I would think the problem is either your computer or your programmer. I dont have a programmer yet since I haven't ordered my wlip yet but I might order my programmer this weekend just to make sure i can program the chip. If it works for me, i'll send you a programmed chip if u need one.

Hey, that sounds great. I've put in a request for PICs with a few people, but haven't heard back from anyone. I'd be willing to send you all the extra PICs I have if you could program YAOSM for me. Also, in the future I'd need a PIC with the updated YAOSM that has DVD upgrade ability. After that, I should be set.

Let me know once you've got your programmer if we can work something out!

This is probably a question that's been asked a hundred times, but are there any upgradable by DVD options that I can use without soldering for the wlip. Also, if I did need to solder in a wiikey or cyclowiz, would I still be able to update those via DVD?
Sorry, 20 pages is a ton to go through.

The PIC chips winnja deluxe and the new upcoming version of yaosm are DVD upgradeble. However, that is only partial upgrade support. Only a small part of the chips memory can be reprogrammed that way. If a full update is required, the only way to do that is to take the chip out and use a programmer

Only the so-called eeprom part of the chip can be reprogrammed when updating via dvd. But when the update is big, the main part of the chips memory needs to be reprogrammed. Only a programmer can do that.

has anbody with the cut legs had a successful install with the wlip (model B)

i'm reallyyy considering getting one but want to see everyone's experiences (plus its out of stock!)

Hey amemoryoncelost.
I can't tell you much about the Cyclowiz but the Wiikey is upgradeable with DVD and has some cool software programes for it like a DVD Dump tool so you can use a SD card and a GeckoSD card adapter in the Game Cube memory card slot to backup your games. There are a few other pices of software to play with too. Also if you have a bad update you can use a recover disc to bring you back to the original Wiikey program that came with the chip and then upgrade again like it was brand new. The only one problem I had with my Wiikey was it didn't recognize my Config discs so I had to use a downloadable copy of the software that was hacked to enable region free use and then everything worked perfect! It is something that has to do with the Wii's 3.x Firmware in the US. Hope this helps a bit.

thanks mekaone, helps a ton! I'd go with the wiikey for sure and it seems like every time people get down on them, there is a ray of home and we hear from them. I'm just weary because I got a ds-x and that joke of a team has really let me down as far as "teams" go.

Either way, I need to get a wlip, such a joke. Hate it when companies can't keep shit stocked.

My DsX crapped out on me tonight.. goodbye all my progress in several games - thankfully, I (after several annoying attempts) was able to reinstall the firmware and junk. /sigh Oh well, I get my Wlip installed on Saturday.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I had the R4 and upgraded to the CycloDS and love it. Never any problems and regular updates. If you are looking for something new, give it a try.

As for the Wlip. The A Version is a quality build and works very good so I hope the B Version is as good and works good with the cut legs. One of my friends is waiting to see how it goes before he gets his Wlip for cut legs (B Version) so I hope all goes good with your installation.

The Wlip Team rocks IMO

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for confirmation from someone that I can get a programmed YAOSM in exchange for my blank PICs. I don't want to buy one if I don't have to, since I think have a worthwhile trade for one.

See that's the main problem I have, I'm on a mac and as far as I know, programming the PICs is out of the question. Plus, I'm lazy and stupid and would rather solder a couple wires than have to deal with programming a PIC. What I want to try and do is solder the stuff so I can easily take it out of the wlip so in the future, if I wanted to use a PIC, it wouldn't be an issue...

Oh and my ds-x is on it's way out and will be getting cyclowiz or maybe just an R4 since their cheap.
