Hardware Wired ethernet for handheld?

I had a usb-c ethernet adapter for my phone and I tried it with the portable but it does not detect the connection. The adapter nintendo sells is USB-A so i assume it's meant to connect to the dock. I want a wired ethernet direct to the handheld, no dock.

Is this possible with just a USB-A to USB-C adapter and the USB A adapter? Can anyone who has it test it out? I don't want to buy the adapter if it won't work in handheld mode.
