Will Windows 7 Shrink Volume erase my stuffs if i shrink my Disk Drive?

I got this new emachine acer laptop and ive got a 320 gb harddisk.
Problem is i only got 1 partition which makes me want to create another one because C:\ is so messy.
So Will Windows 7 Shrink Volume erase my stuffs if i shrink my Disk Drive?

I suggest using GParted for making partition (I've always used it since it works and never has gone wrong for me)

There is always a chance of something going wrong when making partitions.

But the answer to your question, no it won't delete files.

Windows 7 will only allow a shrink if the area you're unassigning through a shrink does not contain any files.

In other words it refuses to shrink your partition if there's a risk of deleting your files.

Changing the partition size will only affect the free space. Shrinking the partition size will not do anything with the files on the partition, although if you will want to shrink your hard drive even more, then you'll want to free up some space.
