Hacking Wiikey: Official Picture + Release Date

so does this mean NTSC wiis can play 100% pal games?
I don't see this stated anywhere?
NTSC consoles can play 100% NTSC-U and NTSC-J games.
It's not stated that it plays PAL games at all, afaik.

But euhrm... why should you care about PAL games on a NTSC console anyway?

once installed with wires, where does the chip sit/rest? is it safe to set it on the pcb?

Right in the middle of the DVD drive where there is a hole in the PCB. That seems to be the easiest way. Insulate the chip with tape and tape the thing to the drive so it doesn't fall off.

Does anyone know anywhere in the UK taking preorders for these, that has a date set for seling to us ?

And does anyone know where these are being manufactured ?
HK ??
China ??

Does the .cn mean china on the web address ?

I like know too if there any seller for wiikey in uk
and modchip are more likely made from china.

so i should stay away from the 30w? is it too hot?

dont use it, you will burn the install point on the dvd drive.

use a 15w soldering iron, not higher!

Yes that ture 15w soldering iron best to use..

30w ftl
Only one i got...hopfully it turns out well.

haha awesome picture. I use a 30w though, on Xboxes to do simple tsoping, it works fine for me, but for the wii, I'm definitely getting a 15w. Not that I'm worried about killing it so much as the fact of if I do, it'll take me months to find another.

Earthbound...seriously, get at 15W...don't end up like this:

Just out of curiosity... How does this happen!?!?!

I mean really, how much time on a board does a 30w iron need to begin to melt the plastic like that? You can't tell me that someone is getting results like this by just tap/touching the iron to the board. What good is there in holding the thing for more than 1 second anyway? If the heat didn't transfer properly in 1 second it's not going to, right?

Where did you find that pic Renegade?

It's good to see what people are talking about with the lifted pads though.

I've always modded with a 30w, not the wii, but on other systems. Always worked fine for me, and I don't think you would have that happen if you know what you're doing.

I found it on Wiinewz. As far as I can tell, it happened when a n00b tried to solder the Wiinja to the Wii. He also managed to take a few of the legs off the Wiinja too. Maybe Parkinson's disease? Some guy had to repair it by soldering the Wiinja directly to the DMS chip cause there was no pad left. My advice to you? PRACTICE LIKE HELL DAMMIT!!! I have no plan to open up my Wii unless I have practiced enough with soldering.

I cannot link to it here though cause that'll be posting a link to another forum.

iv been practicing soldering for hours nowadays. Just praying shit like this doesnt happen to me when i try solder my wiinja.

In case anyone missed it, they updated their site (and added back on the part someone earlier pointed out was taken off the specs: "Unique disc backup application via sdcard") and put on a list of resellers.

Hmm, anyone noticed that modchipstore.com is not in the list of resellers for Wiikey? Gulp, I pre-ordered there
