Well yeah, I was gonna remove the wiikey and yeah, they'll definately notice it was installed. I think i might order a replacement and when they recieve my faulty one just play dumb. Pretend im not sure what they're talking about.


Do that... They won't charge you, they send you a refurbished Wii anyways.

I think either the swap over of the drives or the confession to nintendo is on the cards for me. Might ring em n see if I can blag a free replacement but I doubt it. Especially when they see the mod I did.

I'll just have to explain I was suffering from the speckled screen problem before I modded it.  I might even say that I modded it thinking that the chip would fix the problem, but it didnt!Â

Or say that a guy told me, that if I paid him £50 he'd fix the screen problem by installing a "special chip" so belived him. Icould even say he told me he worked for nintendo. How was I to know it was actually an illegal mod-chip he installed? ha ha ha....

They cant call me a liar... can they??

If they do then I'll just have to turn on the waterworks...

A friend of mine had the same problem and also in the U.K and modded it and when he send it to nintendo they sent him back the wii 4 weeks later with nothing fixed

he said they don't actually open up the console to check if it's chipped but they do run a diagnostic tool which can detect whether or not the console is chipped

I hope this diagnositic tool is a backup

, because if its isnt that means nintendo has chip checking code, which they can insert in retail games as they wish.

@aardvarks - Thanks a lot mate, lemme get back to you on that. Im gonna speak to Nintendo tomorrow n see if I can get an advance replacement, otherwise it'll be the new case job

If I replace the case though, & remove my wires/soldering work, surely when it goes back, Nintendo tech guys will check inside to see if I've voided the warranty by just opening the device. Does/did it have stickers or anything? I can remember, it was ages ago when I opened it.

Which brings me to.....

Ryusamus - This is my first option and hopefully, nintendo EU have the same advance replacement policy, however lots of peeps in the UK say they dont. "Its usually 4 weeks" is what they say.

Dont get me wrong I can live without my wii for a few weeks, I just wanna be sure I'll actually get one back from nint. repaired or not. Dont want to send it them only for them to send back a "warranty voided by opening case - £25 just to get it back" invoice or similar.

I know I sound paranoid as hell but we all know how these companies work and despite all the good Nintendo do, when it comes down to it, they're a company same as the rest.

So, I'll speak to nintendo tomorrow and see what they say about replacing it & I wont mention wikey's or chips or modification of any kind to em

. Hopefully they'll drop one straigt to me but probably they'll send me a box to put my faulty (also wiikey'd) one in. We'll see...
