Nintendo, print warnings inside their game manuals that they do not allow users to make backup or archival copies and is in there user agreement

So, it's still legal to make backups for personal reasons under United States fair use. Nintendo doesn't like it, sure, but I don't want to repurchase any scratched discs. By that same logic, emulators are also "illegal" when they aren't.

Meh. What are they going to do, stop me by bitching about making personal backups? I do what I want, and those DMCA douchebags can't do a damn thing about it. I'm not going to sell them or put them on some ROM site, because that would be stupid.

I don't want to get in a semantic moral fight, because whether or not they say anything about it, there's no stopping what I do with the games I legally own. If the discs I own get scratched or irreparably damaged, I refuse to buy a new copy.

On November 18, House Cybersecurity Subcommittee chair Dan Lungren stated that he had "very serious concerns" about SOPA's impact on DNSSEC, adding, "we don't have enough information, and if this is a serious problem as was suggested by some of the technical experts that got in touch with me, we have to address it.

Which does nothing to elaborate on the legality of the backups in question. I'll keep my backups thank you, and if they don't like, too f***ing bad.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK

I hope more exploits will work someday.

Fuck. What I'd love to do on the wii u would be to run xyzzy (if it can even successfully be run), then dump the nand, see if I can dump the wad's through some other app, try converting the nand dump to run on my wii, maybe convert one of my dumps to work on the vwii. Damn, I really wish I had a wii u.
It would be really cool to see if I were to put a normal wii SM and to manually put a gc disc in the drive if the vwii would see it. I have my doubts that it would and I'm also sure that there is not dvd mode in this drive... or at least I would expect N not to make that mistake again.

It certainly would not work as-is, it relies on the Trucha Bug in the IOS it runs on, as it uses PatchMii to download and patch an IOS, then install it (using Trucha Bug), reload to it, do it's work, tell the IOS to delete itself and then exits [or something like that, anyway]. So I'd say it'd need a new IOS exploit to work, or else modified to run with HW_AHBPROT and wait for HackMii Installer to work on WiiMode. I would be fairly doubtful that Nintendo have put the Trucha Bug back into their IOS for the WiiU...

Yeah, I figured it was probably something like that. It won't be long until the next hackmii installer, I bet.

The interesting thing that I was not expecting to happen was that N decided to still use the same hynix and samsung nand chips for wii mode. I kinda thought that they might just make the vwii nand just be a virtual nand in a file on the bigger flash memory fs.

So I could even do my tsop48 nand clip on it for quick nand swapping and reprogramming.

This machine is going to be great for it's wii mode hacking ability.

Nintendo's user agreement also states that if part of it is found to be illegal, it reserves the right to change it without notifying you. An EULA is not above the law.

They can't do that to my Wii as they're is no can update (all system updates via internet and disc are blocked). Like I said, I refuse to repurchase any game discs that get damaged. Too bad, so sad. Must we continue this tripe?

LET'S REFRAIN FROM DERAILING

Backup loaders aren't illegal if you own the games in question (which I do).

The DMCA makes it illegal to circumvent copy protection, with a few exceptions - video games not being one of them. So even if you own the actual games, the act of copying them makes them technically illegal.

Don't care.

Thats awesome that emulators, apps, etc. work on the Wii U and it seems like there may be hope but does anyone remember the 3DS? It ran flashcarts right off the bat and it was assumed that it would be hacked in a matter of months, but the 3DS remains unhacked and most flashcarts are blocked for good. Nintendo isn't exactly retarded, more than likely something has been done about the IOS that will never allow the mods/hacks that the Wii could run.

ANYWAY, here's a question I posed in another thread.

We know at this point the WiiU SM deletes (usually) Wii exploits from the SD upon vwii load. What does the WiiU SM do, if anything, should the lock switch on the card be putting the sd card into read-only mode?

Yes. 3DS mode remains unhacked, but DS has been off the bat. And we're now in the same situation with the WiiU, albeit a bit more restricted. Nobody expected either console to be hacked in a day. It'll likely take a few years for either to be hacked. But for what is already hackable, there's already entry points to do what we want and improve upon it.
