At the risk of going Full Retard, Here's my question... Why do they soft lock, or even mess up the save? Do they not have the same data for the game? I mean, I know we can run unsigned code up to certain degrees, but I'm confused why their games freeze just by being in the same plaza. Is it cause of the spoofing? A combination? Feel free to PM the information. I'm honestly just curious why we wouldn't freeze using gecko or something, but they would when it should just load the data?

Like, for example, some GM Character (if their are any) wearing it?

Thinking more on it, it just sounds more like the hackers are freezing them than the items causing the issue. Like GTA V....

I'm no expert, but I would think it's because the game saves stats whenever you exit online and there is a location in memory where it isn't supposed to be, so the game gets "confused" and screws up writing the save

Not easy at all, the problem is Nintendont isn't an emulator, but a virtual machine.
More of an interpreter, really. It's kind of like WINE, if you want to think of it that way
So, the Wii U hacking scene...what's gonna happen? It is time for us to panic? I'd so love to find out who the idiot responsible is.
Hopefully Nintendo will be responsible and just permaban him. They've certainly noticed him lol

I'm not sure how much Nintendo is able to monitor in matches, but theoretically they should be able to see who is using what ModelID (since they have to know whether a player is Male or Female based on that same ModelID). They already follow me and most other well known modders, and I'm being transparent, so I've probably gotten through to them about it. However, all it is is a simple Miiverse fix, the NPC objects in the Plaza don't work right with their ModelID, so it just crashes. You can purge it either by getting the internet to disconnect as it's loading or wait until Splatfest which will clean it automatically. If you wanna prevent it in the first place, go buy a $2 thumb drive and copy your save onto it from System Settings (have to copy the update data too as far as I can see, minor inconvenience).

There's no way for anyone to know that doing that would cause a softlock to others either.
While I think that going around with unreleased content and showing off online isn't really the best, I doubt the person that did this was aware that they were corrupting saves.

With Project M one of the big issues we had with adding characters was that whenever the game tried to append data into the save for these characters, it would wreck the save.
Even though the items exist in Splatoon, most likely the game has some areas that haven't been updated to account for the extra choices, causing the softlocks that people are experiencing.
It wouldn't happen to the person doing it and it wouldn't be obvious until it happens once and people trace it back to playing with the hacker.

well not everything, chatterz did make the byaml to xml converter after all :P but still wow
Yeah, but that's passed now :p Hopefully he'll lay low for a while so the scene can actually advance without having jerks/noobs ruining it for us

I wonder why they didn't just make a server-side patch for the Octoling crap. I mean, just check the model is one of the two possible ones, if so allows the player to get a connection token.

Because there is no heavy duty server, they make it as light as possible. Only handles matchmaking and serving news data. I tried to poke them to fix the custom weapon method I used forever ago, but they did an awful job. Only using it for fun in Squid Parties in Private from now on lmao, love speeding around the map with an Inkbrush
