I'm sorry if I'm asking something I shouldn't have to but would someone mind telling me how kelton2's crash is important or special in any way?

I don't mean any disrespect, it's just that every time I read about this crash working I get excited but maybe it's just "'only" in the crashing state... Like I'm aware of 3 webkit cases that would crash the browser (& couple of heap use aft free that don't crash but I think they work) and I also know about two other crashes I found in google code. But this doesn't mean anything since these are only "candidates" for an exploit.

My point is: Is this crash believed/confirmed to be exploitable or something? Or is it still just a mere candidate?

it is reproducible... and is under investigates. Maybe is it exploitable, maybe is it not.

The old webkit exploit does exactly the same thing my crash does if you don't have any code to run, so....

But that still means next to nothing, its possible for a crash to behave the same whilst doing something different behind the scenes. It's looking promising, but don't count your chickens before they've hatched

How is that not hacking? And if it's not, what is? If you say "serious technical discussion" I'm going to punch something.

Serious technical discussion.

Now that your hand hurts, this discussion and further arguments will lead to more drama and the mods cleaning up again. So, let's not go down that road. 5.3.2 in confirmed safe for kernel exploit for everyone.

Okay so I don't know what's on-topic anymore, but to calm things down: does anyone know what OS+webkit-based browser combination the team that developed the exploit uses in QEMU?

FREEZING/CRASHING YOUR WIIU IS NOT HACKING!!!!! you need to see what bugs are available in the webkit (thousands) then you need to pic out of that what ones could be used for memory writes. (you obviously have no idea what you are talking about)

Wow maybe you need to calm down.
What is the definition of hacking anyway?

Hacking is(stripped to the bare-bones definition) is making a system behave in a way it should not. So yes, finding a bug COULD(turning into Bug_Checker again) be considered hacking, but the statement that crash != exploit is true.

Seem's to be that time...
Let's keep on topic blah blah blah derailing trains etc etc

Now I understand we are discussing the definition of 'hacking' which technically adheres to 'hacking discussion' but not so much 'WiiU hacking discussion'

Also hacking referring to hitting something repetitively with a pick ax. Which may work on the WiiU I don't know

Can people just please get back on topic instead of arguing about what constitutes hacking? I'm looking at you, PhyChris.

Coming from you. But alright, for the sake of the thread.

That's really funny. You're really funny.

yep, totally his fault.
I don't like you, but I agree with you here.

Ultimately though, it's up to the mods as to what we can and can't discuss.

I'm sorry but its too sad to see so many people embarrassing themselves by freezing there wiius and thinking they are doing somthing for 'the scene'

hears a little tip: If you cant read and understand the first webkit exploit then you defiantly can't contribute to a new one.

if you think it's better to update, then update. if you think it isn't, don't. the kernel exploit is there, the webkit one isn't (after updating)

That was my post script. After I read your 'bare bones' description. But look into it, or 'hacking away' and you'll see. where as if you tried to look up "making a system behave..." will show up nothing.
Either way, I can see how it can be constituted as funny, because it kind of has two meanings in this sense.

I'm aware of both definitions, and was obviously referring to the computer type, which you (clearly) should have looked up. I was also being sarcastic.

ENOUGH. This has been going on for 4+ pages now. Enough with the bashing each other, if you're gonna do that you may as well not even do it in this section because you all won't get along enough to make a scene for homebrew in the first place!
1) If you're going to talk about blocking updates with routers or anything else not progress related, do it here. That's why I made the thread.
2) The only stuff that should be in this thread (at the moment, anyways) is progress based updates, as deemed necessary. If you're just saying you found a crash, great! Figure out if it's exploitable and if it is THEN post in this thread. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated on the kernel exploit (which MN1 summed up quite nicely a bit ago, we're basically working on timing issues right now). If you found out that you can backup NANDs and flash it back, great! Post it! Made a tool to modify game files? Awesome! Post it here. Otherwise, keep it out of this thread.

Ahem
