So ... if i am reading correctly so far:

Progress is going well but it relies on being able to 'redirect' the Wii U to a local HTML when it makes any(?) outbound Http request? Would my local webserver need to run Python or does it just need to server basic html pages?

You can just use XAMPP (if you're on windows, not sure about other OSes) and Apache to host it. It doesn't /have/ to be local but it makes it a lot easier and a lot more controllable. If and when we make an IOSU exploit and get access to SD card it should be easy enough to make a homebrew launcher load files like the original homebrew channel (with the launcher hosted on some website and any programs/files on your SD/USB)

Could the launcher be something on the root of your SD/USB that the exploit is told to redirect to? That way, users wouldn't have to rely on the website to load homebrew, since web addresses are prone to attacks or being taken down, stuff like that

You'd still need access to the internet to run whatever IOSU exploit is made to access SD/USB, can't get around that and may as well download the launcher too. Besides, it's not like the kernel/IOSU exploit would be needed every time to run programs.

We're getting close ;)

This video is exactly what I have wanted for so long. I am going to look into rom hacking, and all that stuff for the wiiU. Will probably be the first kind of rom hacking I ever look into ^_^

I've been lurking for ever so long, and I admit I did skip A LOT of pages early on, but I honestly wanna thank everyone behind the scenes :D

back to lurking then ;)

Thanks. I already have a Synology NAS server which is able to serve simple HTML/PHP pages so if it only needs to serve HTML I should be alright.

Is the new webkit exploit only going to be completed once the kernel exploit for <5.1 is released?

It depends, at this point it's just basically work we need to get done. We're working on finding/exploiting bugs right now, once that's finished we'll probably clean up Relys' updated build system and release it all as a package. Then we need to do lots of testing to iron out the timing for the kernel exploit (since right now it's just reliable enough to do testing but not even close to 100%), then we'll obfuscate and release that, and then the fun can begin ;) No promises on making a homebrew launcher, but that'd be after all this.

Could you make vWii run in HD by editing memory?

If it were possible to enable an HD framebuffer, then GX could draw something in four 640x480 tiles. That should allow for HD 2D and 3D games! Of course, because the scene must be rendered four times, it would have to be less complex otherwise the game would run slowly. However, this would only be useful for homebrew games because they can have this built-in. Retail games are probably out of luck. Emulators could take advantage of this very nicely! Ever play an N64 game on HDMI? Nintendont might even be able to run GC games in HD with this method.

The only hurdle to pass for my ideas to work is creating a simple hack that allows an HD framebuffer! Hopefully, someone knows how to do this, if it's possible.

EDIT: Wouldn't it be shocking for Nintendo to see people playing N64 games in HD BEFORE they release them on the Virtual Console! :D

Just an idea:
Could one inject code into smash bros in order to gain SD access?

With kernel access this "should" be possible. Games run in userland (with NX security) but as we all know kernel access pwns userland. In theory as long as ab exploitable bug is found in sm4sh that can be used to crash the game and redirect to an executable on the sd card (something like a homebrew launcher). Normally kernel access alone doesnt give us sd card access (need IOSU exploit) where sm4sh already has those privileges, if the game can be exploited, it would give the same permissions that game has, meaning sd card access.

Cant wait til Caffiine and the Kernel exploit are released <3
