Hacking Wii U GamePad Update?

Hi guys, so i just got a wii u and as i'm setting it up it asks me to do a gamepad update even though i haven't connected it to the internet.Does this have to do with my console's firmware (is it gonna update past 5.3.2?) or its just a thing that happens to everyone?Is the gamepad update same as the system update(updating my firmware) or is it just a competely different thing?Thanks

You can update the game pad, it's fine. It won't update the wii u firmware.

I had no idea the Gamepad can update, I guess it really is like a separate system of it's own. What's the latest firmware for the gamepad?
I bought my Wii U bundle recently in Nov, but swapped the console for an older one.

The Wii U GamePad needs to be updated in order to use the Quick Start function.
