Wii U controller had analogue sticks.

Yes, GC analog sticks needs to make a comeback.
The octagonal shapes around the sticks, the grip, the satisfying sound it made when you slammed it to one direction.
I don't know how I would have made it trough F-Zero GX without it.
...Another company that knows how to make proper pads:

1. Analog sticks in the most logical positions - the left one right under the thumb where it's supposed to be, the right one right under the control buttons as it's second-priority on that side. That's it, Microsoft! Improve on the already "smart" layouts of the Dreamcast (which had just one stick, but it was placed exactly where it belonged) and GameCube!
2. Analog triggers borrowed from the Dreamcast. Too bad they don't have the "second button" underneath like the GameCube ones had (when you fully pressed the analog, you could hear a "click" - another function could be mapped to that) but they'll do.
3. Relatively ergonomical shape.

...On the other hand, a company that will never learn how to make proper pads:

1. LOL@[member='Sony'], it's not the 1990'ties anymore - when will you learn that humans have thumbs on the inner, not the outer side of their hands? Nobody gives a damn about the D-Pad anymore so stop putting it on the glorified spot for crying out loud - your controllers are entirely capable of *dislodging* the left thumb.
2. Sleek surface on those analogs, really. They're totally not going to be slippery if you don't put any protruding pattern on their surface. Even the XBox has those 4 dots around the edges, c'mon Sony - learn from other successful designs!

We did our best not to mention third-party controllers, otherwise we'd spend a century here debating which one was the best. :P

EDIT: We have a member named SONY? Really? Talk about being a fan. :P

The concave dent of the 360 controller really makes all the difference, also the distance between the two analog sticks is bigger making it a more ergonomic choice.
The only down side of the GC controller was the asymmetrical analogs (lame C-stick) and the crappy D-pad.

The C-Stick was indeed kinda lame for not having a "mushroom cap", but it never really bothered me as it kinda signified its function as a camera-operating stick only. As far as the D-Pad is concerned, I never had any issues with it TBH, but then again, I barely used it. :P

I think the distance you mentioned is also caused by the fact that the 360 is kinda marketed as a toy "for big boys and girls" - the GameCube was more of a "console for everyone" so the pads had to facilitate use by small children, hence the smaller distance.

Well, I mean, isn't it obvious? All console developers just need to contract half of the work out through Logitech because they end up making some pretty decent stuff (I've never been unimpressed with Logitech until I bought my C310 webcam. Thing was worse than my XBL Vision Camera on Skype) :P

And, @SONY - Fanboii.

I barley used the C-stick now when I'm thinking about it, though the D-pad bothered me a lot when I was playing the Megaman X collection the other day.

IMO the 360 has it's stick and d-pad in the wrong spot. Oh and the little indent in the 360's sticks is to avoid paton issues, other wise they be just the ps2/3. Sony doesn't need to change a 3 about the ps3 controller. Don't fix what isn't broken.

When you grab a newspaper, or in fact any object with two hands, are your thumbs facing upwards or downwards?

Upwards, because that's the natural order of things. That's how human hands work, that's their default setting. The PS3 controller only has the analog stick where it is due to the "legacy of the DualShock", it's definitely not a matter of comfort and by God, you will not convince me otherwise. There's likes and dislikes and there's simple anatomy. And before you call me a Fanboii, I do have the PS1, PS2 and I'm planning on getting a PS3 in the nearby future, right now I'm just playing on my in-law's PS3. :P

Also, the indent on the 360 controller is to prevent slipping - your thumbs are rounded, not concaved inwards. It's a very logical choice.

I use this with my PS3. It pisses over the standard PS3 controller.

I've always had the analogue sticks at the bottom, I also like the feeling of symmetry, both of my thumbs would be in the middle. I've never liked how big the Xbox controller felt, it just felt awkward, either that, or my hands are pretty damn small.

The controller isn't bad, it's just not ideal honestly. The PS3 controllers still suffer from terrible triggers. I can deal with the placement of analog sticks/buttons, but the triggers are terrible.

The Xbox 360 controller is glorious, exception being that D-Pad. Fortunately I only really use it for switching items in games, I rarely use it for movement or anything significant.

Well, who are we to judge your likes and dislikes? I just think it's more anatomically-correct to have the main analog stick right under the thumb rather then to the side. ;) If your hand "got used to it" and that's the only type of a controller you feel comfortable with then hey - there's nothing wrong with that. What I do want to point out though is that Sony's the only company that kept this layout - everybody else, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sega and most third parties that are not trying to emulate the PS3 controller changed their layouts - heck, even some third-party controllers for the PS3 adapted is, as we've seen earlier. :)

Look at that photo. guess which one is called the Duke.
If that deosn't do it, recall the phrase 'Xbawx hueg'

Going with the circle pad over analogue sticks, huh? Wow, I guess they really do know how to stick it to their customers.
