Well, after this giant flamewar with everyone getting all freaked out about piracy, maybe I should set things straight.

Basically this, the Boot ROM literally does NOTHING right now, we just need it to figure out where the keys are so we can get them and finally decrypt stuff. Only then will we be able to exploit it fully and start working on something to support homebrew. And if you want to take it from us, we have every means to limit piracy while still allowing a homebrew platform, we don't like it anymore then you do.

It didn't take close to a year to do anything, marionumber1 and I were working on it for probably 8-10 days as well. We had it EASY since we had information on how it works and what we had to do to get it, it was all about the timing. A year means nothing other then nobody had cared enough to try until now.

i dont seem to understand that if homebrew is enabled you can somehow lock out usbloaders??? do you not think that the authors or the usbloaders would be capable with out your help??? no offence

It cannot be avoided, piracy may be curtailed/prevented for x amount of time, but eventually, it finds a way. This cannot be completely prevented. Unfortunately, USB loaders, other homebrew, and piracy, etc often go hand-in-hand.

All I want are better emulators for N64 and PSX, those two emulators on the Wii now are severely outdated and the author refuses to update them. A port of Mupen64 Plus 2.0 and PCSX-R would be awesome :D

From this point on, it's hard to say what's going to happen with the bootrom, but, I hope the Wii U hacking scene doesn't die off just because a few people are acting cowardly over potential piracy

agreed. the way i see it as no matter what people want from this hack/soon to be exploit. where there is homebrew there is piracy and vise versa

also what makes me laugh is you have console hackers here bitching about piracy..... i dont really remember seeing ANY devs that root or jailbreaks other devices saying they wanna hold back because of such a poor excuse (piracy)

I couldn't care less about Wii U backups, but admit to having them on my original Wii, I just want some good homebrew, but we need to be realistic, we won't see an exploit, much less Wii U specialized homebrew for quite a while. Luckily, the exploit itself can't be patched via Nintendo, but as a precaution, we'd best prevent our Wii U's from being updated.

I have all the Wii-U games I want (besides "X" and Smash Bros).. and don't care about piracy..I want to hack my Wii-U for Wii backups and for the first time, I have a legitimate interest towards the limitless amount of homebrew (non warez) which could spawn from this...NES emulator?...use your gamepad as a VNC server?..who knows :)

Everyone should not get their hopes up, as this is nothing towards a proper WiiU exploit, so don't expect booting WiiU backups and the like anytime sooner. Its way overly hyped at the moment.

Yeah, we read it, but eventually, someone else will find a viable exploit even if they themselves won't do it due to piracy (a nice excuse). People can't comment on it because the comments are locked. Nevertheless, it's still a step in the right direction even if it can't be used all that much now.

i dont think we have and we have stated its "progress". not a hack or exploit

It's a small stepping stone, I honestly don't think most of us are assuming it's a major event, but a step in the right direction. It can't be patched from Nintendo either.

I lost all my 40+ purchased virtual console games on my First day Wii (my kid got it wet) so i couldn't transfer them to Wii U or even get the discount for Wii U Play, so Virtual Console emulation/Installation on GamePad would be awesome.

Seems interesting. Still not sure what the point is of running homebrew on Wii U vs a PS with android tablet. (I think that Nintendo should have set up the tablet to be able to dual boot into Android, and then they would have a lot more sales of hardware, but whatever).

Actually, I bought a Wii U on black friday from gamestop used, along with two others as it was buy two get one free, and sold 2 so that I got it super cheap in time for Smash Bros. :-)

Have had a lot of fun with it thus far with friends and Nintendoland and Super Mario 3d World.

Waiting for cost of Pikmin 3 to come down, and already have Windwaker original so didn't see the point of anything else unless I can find cheap party games. Was very disappointed to see that Rabbids Land is 2 players at a time only.

That rant aside, I think that people in the homebrew scene do make some pretty sweet games, and the imagination that goes into it will hopefully result in some great party homebrew in the next 3 years.

Great to see that people are working at this. Thanks much guys.

dont be silly android on a Nintendo device... thats a good idea, Nintendo dont do good ideas.. for the last 10 years.

Damn. I got all excited for a sec. So... this is pretty much useless, and is really nothing new. Oh well, I'm a recent Wii U owner and have been really enjoying the system so far. Hopefully some day in the not too distant future we'll see some homebrew for it.
