Well, with the state that things are now, they'll first have to find a way to get past the 5.1.1 barrier to be able to even get back online. Releasing the PPC hack right now would be harmless, that is, until someone finds a way to bypass the firmware requirement checks.
As people have already said, releasing the exploit now isn't harmless, if nothing else it gives people who haven't updated a platform to develop more exploits. It is almost impossible for Nintendo to prevent firmware checks being faked; they have no secure way to transmit a new key to the Wii U which couldn't be intercepted (with the common key), so cryptography can't help them, which means the check is likely something trivial.

It would be great if Chadders and/or MrBean could share their secrets to someone who's just out to get the music from games and nothing more. Has anyone tried asking nicely? :P

Wow, just noticed Chadderz is writing here, feel like a jackass.

I would, but I feel like doing some research first. Kinda like what I did with the 3DS. I feel that I should put in the effort to finding stuff first, then use the easy stuff later. I was contemplating sending him a really nice PM, but I'd feel like a freeloader, tbh. If it were the other way around (ie. Him offering stuff to me), I'd feel better, but I'd rather put in the effort first.
