even lazy people should read these first:

http://hackmii.com/2008/04/on-firmware-pat...responsibility/
http://hackmii.com/2008/04/the-doghouse-wi...enu-wadpatcher/

and realize that this "tool":

1/ does not bring anything new and use known code (see how the new HB channel has been "downgraded"), which would have been clearer is Waninkoko dared to explain how his tools are working or had released the sourcecode, which strangely, he never did
rolleyes.gif

2/ is useless unless you never want to play new released games on your wii

PS: remember that Waninkoko is only using Twiizers's informations and libogc last features to release some apparently interesting tools (omg, it's like the "PSP downgrader", it must be so coool), don't expect him discovering anything revolutionnary himself

guess you didn't read the links I posted

this is definitely not a custom firmware, this is only a tool to tell the wii system menu to use an older IOS version, and in the case of Waninkoko: replace existing wii system menu with an older one, just think that the wiis ystem menu is a channel title like any other, it can be installed through a WAD installer...

the problem is again:
- some channels might require some new implemented feaures in system menu and your will will hang after you installed them
- some games might automatically install the last wii system menu and nobody know what would happen in such case

so yes, i's useless in this form
waninkoko will never release a custom firmware for the good reason that he has no idea on how to do it, this require patching the low-level codes (boot1,boot2) which can not be done so easily as installing a channel

i can't believe the amount of negativity here.
waninkoko has just developed something that has a lot of potential (i have in mind the prospect of downgrading a future firmware using IOS37 to a current firmware using the twilight hack), and you guys just bitch and moan. the fact that, at this early stage, this is quite risky is probably why waninkoko has decided not to release this (yet).
so give the guy a break. he's not caused any bricks. and he's done something potentially brilliant. i tip my hat to him.

for god sake, read the links I gave you and try to understand why this tool is not a custom firmware and is indeed useless and potentially dangerous
people are just so waiting for a PSP-like firmware that they lose all ability of judgement or reflexion ?

you are putting too much hope in waninkoko, it's just a smart guy who know how to use informations he was given by other people, all what he did is playing with channels/title installed on you wii using some well known functions call

Just one question Waninkoko: according to the video: why did the install start at 19.44 and finished at 20.01 while that video is just 2.35 minutes long ? did you shot/cut the video ?
Just curious, because I used to trust you and your works (ie your amazing tools), but I have to admit that this video looks really like a fake one.

Not another person thinking it is fake.

As this comes from Waninikoko, I would bet it is legit.. but still:
Problem is : when you do a video to show/proof something, you'd better do it correct ; what did happen for these 15 minutes ?? he must have done something else... (maybe he didn't want us to see what he did... maybe he de-solder and solder another NAND chip (joking)... who knows ??)

You f***ing right !!!!! ALL MY APOLOGIZE ^^ And so you really need to set it up ^^

obviously, it is no fake because, unless I'm missing something, this is not something new, System Menu is like any other channel on the Wii, it's a title, than can be replaced if you got the right title ID and tickets

so, Waninkoko, since you are here, could you explain us what so useful with this ?
what is the difference of installing an older system menu title comparing to installing any other channels through WADS ?

and what would happen when running a game or installing channel that requires (and probably autoupdate) a newer wii system menu version ?

Waninikoko, are you going to release this?

It is just a wad, correct?

this can be done already:

dump system menu 2.1
pack it correctly into a wad
install the wad using wad installer

if you know how to do it yes
what I don't know:
do you need to dump 2.1 from a wii that has not been updated or are older System Menu stored into the NAND somewhere (I doubt that, pretty useless for Nintendo)

anyway, as I said, reinstalling an older system menu over the current one is USELESS. If you don't believe me, read (or translate, thanks babelfish) Marcan's posts from this thread, this also clear up a lot of things about Waninkoko:

NONE of these developers intentions are to short-change anybody out of a Wii (check out the screens before you can push a button to do something on some of their releases, these guys make DISCLAIMERS for a reason folks). If you're thinking otherwise maybe you should take the other pill with your morning shitfests.

If you don't want to take a RISK of possibly "bricking" your console, then DON'T take the risk. If you don't think you can handle reading some of these threads cuz you're too anxious for a public release; go take some Xanax, remove your account from here and never come back again.

Anyway, I doubt it could be used to make a Custom Firmware. Custom Firmware mean modified Firmware and AFAIK there isn't any modified piece of firmware in this video.

It's like I deleted my spider.exe of my Windows Vista and replaced it with the spider.exe of Windows XP (stupid example
