Hardware Wii Read disc error

my (Softmodded) Wii stopped reading discs today. I got these questions:

Whats the best way to fix the Disc Read errors? by replacing the DVD drive or replacing the lens?
Will either affect the Wii's softmod in any way?
what are some DVD Drives that read dvd-r?

first of all you sure its a hardward issue, you did say its sofmodded. Are you trying to load backups? and what loader are you using?

I tried to load both backups on Neogamma and retail discs on the Disc Channel

Just replace the Whole Drive.
Make sure it's not a D3 drive if you want to be able to play Burned discs.
