Wii modded, apps how?

SD card is a best start.
Keep reading the guides. Yeah, it's a pain, but you will get smarter ;)

I suggest a large SDXC, at least a 256gb, that will give plenty of room for GC (etc.) games.
You can go to 512gb, if you need more room.

Just read on what other USB storage may suit your style :)

I thought the wii can only handle 32Gb

Some of the stated standards are outdated. Pending on some certain Wiis, but it shouldn't really matter much. We don't live in a totally perfect world.
You can use a 32gb & live happily ever after. It will work fine/perfect.
256gb & 512gb, I tested with my Wii & they haven't missed a beat.

You can try a 64gb & work your way up. They're cheaper to purchase, these days.
I do use micro SDXC cards in a SD adapter. A discrete SD should work the same.

I only use my Wii for Wii & GC games (& Wii apps). Bliss :)
I try & keep things simple. More apps & emulators, to me are a worry.
