I wish Nintendo added an (you need to update before you can play online) function. That would stop some hackers on The Conduit and Mario Kart Wii.
i dont, mandatory updates suck. thats why the ps3 hasnt been hacked yet.
Thats also why there almost no hackers on ps3. Homebrew is cool but its destroying online gaming for on Wii.

Cheaters are the ones who destroy online gaming experience IMHO...

I was on WiiBrew, and there are new preloader hacks on there, one for each region, which block the HAXX, DVDX etc. checks. Are they real, and if so, how can you install preloader on 4.2? I thought IOS70 blocked it or something?

we just need a preloader that installs to a trucha'd IOS70 for 4.2

Well, chances are if you block disc updates somehow and also update/install IOS when neccesary using WADs from the discs or NUSD, you can play any new games that come out.
I use DriveKey modchip so I should be OK If I block updates right?

EDIT: removed this paragraph, xzxero answered it...

Also, could we uninstall that IOS16 v512 stub using a wad of it from NUS Downloader (not sure if the sig is valid on NUSD wads, if not then nvm)?

This really makes me wonder if title deletion is even possible with a normal (read: official) IOS. Does anyone know?

Whooops.... Maybe 4.2 is the time to rejoin the Wii Scene ^^

I guess I will start some tests tomorrow...
Anybody tried to modify HBC.wads title id or stuff like that ?

The modification of the title ID would most definitely work for keeping the HBC on the system. Easiest method would be of course to extract the HBC with Wad Creator, and then run it through wadder and change the title. I thought about that early yesterday, but I was just waiting for someone else to bring it up

Still waiting to see if anybody has successfully trucha'd IOS36 on the new firmware however.

yeah zektor, that should work out good...
I don't have my wii right here, so I can only test tomorrow or at the end of the week.
It also might be possible to change the HBCs title id right inside the nand and then run the 4.2 update
or better to use the v8 from dop-ios. to download newest ios and patch trucha back in...

//EDIT:
As I read 4.2 sysmenu runs on IOS70... I wonder if dop-ios successfully can patch trucha back in ios70
If I remember correctly, HBC runs on IOS60 or IOS61 are those affected by the 4.2 update?

Couldn't we use ATD to uninstall the new versions of IOS16 and IOS249, then install the original IOS16 and use it to install cIOS?

Sure, if you can find an IOS that ATD will run on that has the trucha bug on it still.

I saw that it doesn't change IOS16. If I had installed the BackupDisc version while at 4.1U, couldn't I use TBS with it at 4.2U?

You could just update with WADs, keeping your current IOS36. (i.e. download IOS70 and System Menu 4.2 as WADs with NUSD and install them). And before the update, dump HBC, then reinstall it afterwards. This would also keep BootMii as boot2 alive.
