i totally hate Broadcom chipsets man lol why o why couldnt they have went with Atheros, then some aircrack-ng fun would of been so much easier, am still working at it though. lol

i will crack a wep key with a Wii, although with the limited ram i think it might take a while lol

Thanks guys.Really appreciate your help.

I got it running under mini, and I got it, but I just get a command line...(after I login)

@kLiNiKaL

which version do you use ? xwhiite , bliight? or archii?

which file must i click in bootmii? just the ppcboot.elf and it automatically starts linux?

thanx

i'm actually using Miight RC1 which i believe is still in closed beta, this is a old build also i dont have the latest.

its built on Debian, so its really easy to get things up and running.

a slackware image would be nice, then we could just add things modular.

thanx for the quick answer !

i´m a real noob when it comes to linux .

so as it seems every linux-wii distro works with this ... how do i start it though?

as it seems booting from hbc nullifies all the advancements like wifi etc.

nah i will try it out tomorrow , i don´t find my other sd card anyways right now.

i think a distro like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY1xAiNnPTc...feature=related

would be very nice on wii , its only 50 mb, i have it on my stick , it only has firefox , pdf, picture-viewer , and mediaplayer , and all functions besides firefox should be stripped or even firefox should exchanged for a more lightweight browser ,

but the layout is very nice , and how simplified it works , perfect for the wii.

k dood igh bye

I thought Miight is discontinued, and they're forcing their attentions now on Archii and a secret project...or am I wrong

?

@Topic: This is a big breakthrough, now I only need a good Linux-Distro (I' wasn't very happy with XWhiite and Bliight...Archii seems to look good, still, it's unfinished). I think I'll wait a bit longer, until I'm messing again with that....a custom Distro would be nice, with a simple, clear Interface, only made for the Wii (like someone posted above). Let's wait...but it's nice that the Kernel is getting better and better

Your right about Archii and the secret project
ph34r.gif
It's on the linux page on Wiibrew

EDIT: Just got XWhiite 0.2 working but there is one problem: It only shows a stripe of the desktop along the screen. Anybody know how to fix this? I used to have it working perfectly a few months ago

EDIT 2: It works using the kernal provided with whiite linux installer so I'll try a different MIKE one

EDIT 3: Tried all versions same result

i think from now on developement is gonna speed up... without internetaccess there was almost no point in developing a well running distro.

now i think many more people will want this to happen... a fullfledged browser with flash is what everyone want on wii...

watching Justin.tv on the Wii is the greatest thing i have ever done with a console EVER lol its totally EPIC, just in time for Summerslam aswell.

i think Muzz has scrapped Miight also, which is a shame since i dont really see Archii being a good starting point for newbs, Arch Linux is alot more effort than Debian will ever be..although i do admit pacman is a great package manager, i just hope they preconfigure and hide away most stuff.

otherwise it will push away potential new adopters.

You meant muzer

I think this is pretty badass with the wifi.....the only thing I don't like is the inability to autoboot the mini elf file, this still creates the need for a broadband adapter for me. I want a linux system where I can issue "shutdown -r now" to and have it come back while not physically there. I used to have the older kernel installed in the preloader space and autoboot "file". It was pretty cool to use Zina over Apache for streaming my mp3s and ssh tunneling from work
wink.gif
.......if anyone knows a way to autoboot the mini elf file please share. I've not had much time to play around with cboot butI did try a quick experiment to launch it and no go on the mini launcher, haven't tried the IOS elf but that doesn't allow for wifi or would it under cboot?

EDIT: never mind my cboot ramblings, I just realized how utterly stupid I was being

i submitted a feature request to autoboot files.

it was turned down because Twiizers said it wasnt needed.

when for this type of thing it blatantly is in my opinion you could have a 2nd SD strictly for inserting and autobooting Linux.

time 2 resubmit.

I do hope they will reconsider, I remember when the older versions of preloader would not work with the kernel elf until crediar saw value in making that work. I hate to say it like this but may the gods smile down upon us little people. If not twiizers maybe someone else will get frustrated enough and take it on somehow, unfortunately I'm too dim

On another note which debs did you install to get gecko and flash running?

i managed to get apt-get working nicely now using the Debian Stable repo, i'm not sure which version this is built on but they seem to work.

i also got gnome-app-install working, albiet with a shit load of probably uneeded libs but its working (takes a AGE to load.)

i've began to mess with the WM and i think the combo of openbox and maybe tint2 or lxpanel would be the most lightweight solution. add this in with wicd and wpa_supplicant.

(anyone who has used crunchbang linux will know the look i'm going for.)

hi kLiNiKaL

i´m a little wind up over here , could you post a miniguide or at least a cool wii-linux-version with preinstalled X-server, because command line and compiling my own stuff is a bit heavy for a complete linux-noob.

i yesterday tried multiple usb-stick linux versionms for my pc ( as most whiite-tutorials are from linux not windows) . its really nice and fast but it takes some time to get used to and webbrowsing on wii = win ,

please help me a bit...

edit: also how small do you think you can get a distro?

is there a way to strip down modules like geexbox does ( it seems to have no window manager at all, yet fullspeed-graphics for video) to the point where its only a browser -launcher like geexbox is only a mediaplayer-launcher and nothing else...?

i am working on that exact thing dude.

will probably get it up 2nite maybe tomorrow.

and just download ubuntu, and use the wubi.exe installer and it will auto setup dualboot for you.

ohhh your online , awesome if you post that tonight !

on my pc i´m content right now , all my hdds are full anyways -> no place for linux on my pc atm

but i´m really interested in a wiiversion , mainly for watching anime on the tv .

i will check this thread a few times tonight , hopefully you get everything up and running how you want it ...

best luck

Not to go off topic, or downplay the awesomeness of wifi working under linux now. But unless you're streaming your anime, in which case.. WHY? You can already watch it using mplayer-ce. Or unless you're talking dattebayo releases which use h264, the hardware limitations for decoding it will be just as present in a linux environment as they are running mplayer-ce. And if you ARE having trouble with h264 releases, it only takes about 10mins to convert a 200meg file to xvid. Just download an app to convert anything you can only find in that codec.

Back on topic, while remaining on my own side-topic... i'm hoping geexbox implements this kernel soon. mplayer-ce does anything a person could ask for, but competition and more people actively working on media players is never a bad thing.

i'm not really interesting in a media player so to speak, mplayer does that amazingly...i'm thinkin about more of a desktop on tv. and also justin.tv and ustream is essential.
