Hacking WII hardmoded semi-bricked?

Hello!
My friend has a wiikey moded american wii. recently when playing a japanesse game, he was prompted with the system update ( likely japanesse update ) and pressed yes. since then he cant acess the system menu, browser, any of the apps. How to solve this? thanks in advance!

I know nothing about the WiiKey but if somehow PriiLoader is installed or if WiiKey has something similar then try holding down the reset button on the Wii when you turn it on and see if that boots something up. Other than that you will have to wait for someone else to help you.

Wiikey - ability to run burned games.
Grab some lego exploit and corresponding game.
Install HBC then proper IOS and SM for it.
